Description

G. BOOTH.
Vegetable Graters.
No. 138,123. ParentedAprilzzJee.
AM Pflarailmosmm/c co. N. )1(0ssamvsf Peacvsss;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE BOOTH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN VEGETABLE-GRATERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,123, dated April 22, 1873; application filed p March 24, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE BOOTH, of the city of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have madeA and invented a new and useful Improvement in Vegetable Graters, of which the following is a specication:
This invention is an improved grater for general kitchen use; and consists of a metallic frame and pad in combination with a gratefplate. The frame and pad may be made of cast-iron, or formed by strikin,D up sheet metal to the proper form. The grater-plate is of the usual construction. All the parts are secured by the proper fastenings, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
The following description will enable any one to make and use my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specioation.
Figure l is a plan view of the lower or reverse side of the said improved grater. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of Fig. l on the line x x.
A A A A is the main frame-work. B B B B is a pad holding 0the grater to the main frame-work. c c are eyes on the main frame-work. b b are -key-bolts. c c are iianges on the main frame-work. G is the grater-plate. The upper part of the main frame-work has a hole, h, which serves as a handle, and also to hang the grater in its proper place on a pin or hook. The graterplate O has a rim around its edges, so that when placed in the main frame-work itmay fit up into the opening of the frame-work and be flush with the upper side thereof. The opening in the-main frame-work lis constructed of any desired size, so as to receive the liush part of the grater-plate; and the open space in the pad is made to correspond to that in the main frame-work.
The parts of the improved grater are put together thus: The main frame-work is placed upon a table with the lower or reverse side up; the grater-plate is then put into its proper place with the iiush side down 5 the pad is put in its proper place upon the grater-plate, so as to secure the rim thereof to main framework, the pins or keys b b are then inserted into the eyes c c', which are attached to the main frame-work, and secure the pad B B B B in its proper place. The grater is then ready for use. By taking out the pins or keys and removing the pad the grater-plate C may 'be taken out and cleaned, and when worn out it may be replaced by a new one.
Having fully described the nature of my invention, what l claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-,
The grater herein described, composed of a main frame-work, A Al AI Af, a pad, B B B B, a grater-plate, C, eyes c c, and keys b b', the whole arranged and combined substantially as set forth.
GEORGE BOOTH.
