WATER PILLOW;
APPLICATION FILED DEc.27, 1911.
. Patented June 7, 1921.
Specition of LettersPatont. Patented Jun@ i921,
pplioation @led December 2?, 1917. Serial No. 269,199.
To all 'whom t may concern.
Be it known that I, IwAo Eooomfsub'ect of the Empire of Japan, residing at o. 4 Kamimakicho, Nihonbashi-Ku, Tokyo, Japan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Pillows, of which the following is a specification.
My 'inventionrelates to improvements in water pillows, hot water bottles and like articles and particularly to a Idevice for closing the mouth of the bott-le or pillow when 1n use.
According to the invention, the closing device comprises a frame inthe form of a parallelogram, the links of which are hingedly connected at the ends thereof, 'one of the links being provided with a clamping device such as a member carrying a set screw, adapted when the frame is in the closed or collapsed osition to engage another of the links to rmly clamp the same upon the mouth of the bottle or pillow.
The accompanying drawings illustrate an example of a water-pillow constructed according to this invention, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the water-pillow, showing its mouth opened;
Figs. 2 and 3 are longitudinal partial sections of the same, Fig. 2 showing the mouth closed, but before the closing device is clamped in closed position, while Fig. 3
shows the mouth of the pillow closed and sealed by the -closing device;
Figs. 4 and 5 are detailed plans of the closing device, Fig. 4 showing the :trame opened, while Fig. 5 shows the same closed and its clamping device in clamping position.
The closing device which constitutes the principal part of this invention, consists of a metal frame in the form of a parallelogram having four links 1, 2, 3, 4 the ends of which are hinged to one another, so that the frame forms varying parallelograms betweenl the hinged points 5 and 6 when it is opened (Fig. 4), and forms two parallel members consisting of the connected links 1 and 2 and the connected links 3 and 4 when it is close Cigirried on one of the longer links 1 of the said frame is a clamping member 7 which has at one end a tubular part 0r boss 8 by which it is so attached that it may be freely turned around the link 1 at the end thereof near the yoint for the link 2, said member 7 having at its other end a lug 9 in which a set screw 10 is threaded.
The other longer link- 3 Vof the said frame has on its out'er surface near the joint for the link 4 a recess-l1 adapted to be engaged by the pointed end 0f thelsaid screw 10 when the frame is closed and the clampingmeinber is turned to embrace the links 1 and .3.
Thus, the closin device consisting of the said frame and c amping member may be tightly closed by screwin up the said screw 10, so that the layers o material forming the mouth of the pillow or bottle and lyin within the frame may be tightly presse il to ether, as shown in Fig. 5.
closing device constructed as above mentioned is arran ed around the periphery of the mouth 14 o the pillow-body 12, and an outer mouth-piece 13 ma be applied thereon to cover the links of t e frame and hold the same in place, suitable notches 15 being made in the mouth-pieces above the frame, in order to permit the turning of the clamping member.
It will be seen that the closing device holds the mouth of the pillow wide open t0 ermit ready introduction oi' water, ice or te like thereinto, and also secures hermetical sealing of the mouth when it is closed.
i claim:
The combination with a dexible receptacle having a exible neck with a lurality of notches provided in the mout of the same, of.v a series of links surrounding said neck and' having their ends pivotally connected together and forming a parallelogram, a lookin member ivotall mounted on one of sai t an provi ed with a iockin screw adapted to engage another one of sai links, andmeans provided on the last named link for receiving the end of said screw, said locking member in locked position resting in the notches in the mouth of said receptacle. y
ln testimony whereof I a my signature in presence of two witnesses.
