T 0 aZZ whom t may concern Be it known that I, FRED D. Cnosinn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brockton in the county ofpPymouth and State of l assachusctts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Steamers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a steaming box for steaming shoes to soften the boxes in the toe of the shoe and the principal object of the invention is to provide means to direct the steam around the toe of the shoe so as to produce the quantity of steam required and also to prevent injury to the shoe by the steams condensation and the resulant water dropping on the shoe.

Another object of the invention is to so form the top of the box that the steam will be drawn upwardly to the outlet pipe without being caught by projecting parts of the box.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the sev eral views, and in which Figure l is a front view of a steam box constructed in accordance with my invention.

in these views l indicatesI the box which is provided with the opening' 2 in its front and has a shelf 3 extending outwardly from said front adjacent said opening, to support the shoe. Steam is introduced into the bottom of the box by means of the pipe 3 and the steam is carried from the box by means of the outlet pipe a which is connected with its top. The top of the box ares upwardly to said outlet pipe as shown at 5.

` A perforated plate 6 is arranged across the lower part of the box above the steam lpipe and below the opening and a baiiie plate 7 is arranged across the box adjacent said opening and this plate is provided with a recess 8 in its front edge for receiving the toe of the shoe. The rest of this plate is solid so that the steam passing through the perforated plate must pass through said recess and thus be directed around the toe of the shoe where it is most needed. The steam then passes upwardly through the outlet pipe, the flaring top of the box facilitating its passage and preventing the steam from being held in the box and condensing.

By the use of the bafiie plate the steam is directed against the shoe so that less steam is required than if the baffle plate is not used and the shoe is heated much quicker.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

W hat l claim is 'z- 1. A steam box of the class `described including a front wall provided with an opening and also having a flaring top, an outlet connected with the flaring top, a shelf secured exteriorly of the box at a point substantially flush with the lower portion of the openingformed therein, and a bafiie plate secured within and extending across the box, said baffle plate being disposed in alinement with the opening in the box and having a recess in its front edge for diresting the steam against the shoe.

2. A steam box of the class described having a front wall provided with an opening, a steam pipe passing into the lower portion of the box, a perforated baiiie plate secured within the box at a point above the steam pipe, and a second baie plate secured within the box at a point above the first mentioned baffle plate, the second mentioned baffle plate being disposed in alinement with the opening in the front wall of the box and provided with a recess in its front edge for directing the steam against the shoe.
