Patented Apr. 26, 1921.
J. F. CRISI.
TOY.
APPLICATION FILED MAY `24| 1920.V
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN F. GRIST, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
TOY.
Application filed May 24, 1920. Serial No. 383,754.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN F. CRrs'r, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy and consists in general of two circular disks, between which is situated a characteristic figure or some other ornamental device and the handle in connection with the device so that same may be pushed or pulled by a young child.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a practical and inexpensive form of toy which will afford amusement and recreation to the young child and at the Sametime be stimulative of healthful exercise.
Another object of this invention is to provide means mounted between the circularr disk which will carry a figure so that same will take a vertical oscillatory movement when the disks are rotated.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists of certain novel constructions, arrangements and combinations as will be hereinafter more fully described in the appended specification and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing- Figure 1 is a vertical section taken through my invention.
Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of my invention showing the figure removed therefrom.
Fig. 1 is a detailed perspective view of an eccentric element used in connection with my invention. v
Fig. 5 is a section taken on the line 5--5 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 6 is an elevation of a modified form of a figure or ornamental device which may be. used in connection with my invention.
By referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that 1 designates a pair of circular disks which may be formed of wood or any other suitable material. These circular disks 1 are rotatably mounted upon the axle 2 and are separated by means of an eccentric element 3. This eccentric element 3 is provided with an aper ture running longitudinally thereof so as to receive the axle 2 and has another longitudinal opening adjacent its top portion for a purpose to be hereinafter disclosed. If desired, the eccentric element ,3 may be ixedly attached to the disk 1 by means of glue or some such other adhesive material.
A counter balance 5 which is provided with an enlarged opening 2.4 shown to advantage in Fig. 1 is mounted upon the eccentric element 3. This counter balance 5 has a curved bottom and fiattened portion at its top. Depending apertures are provided in its top portions as shown at 6 in Fig. 1v for receiving the pins of the figure 7. The groove 9 is provided in the lower portion of the counter balance 5 for a purpose to be hereinafter disclosed. A handle 10 is provided for pushing the device and has an opening in its end for receiving the twisted shank of the wire 12 which has arms extending along and parallel with the outside of the disk 1 and these arms are bent at right angles inwardly so as to form the pintles 14 for pass-V ing through the disk and into the aperture 4t provided in the eccentric element 3. A ferrule 11 is provided at the end of the handle 10 and has a pair of depending lips 15 between which is pivotally held the bar 16 by means of the rivets 17. This bar 16 extends into the slot 9 and is fixedly mounted therein by means of the rivet 18 between the washers 19.
By referring especially to Fig. 6 it will be seen that a modification is provided which may be substituted for the figure 7. This modification consists of a single strand of wire bent over upon itselfv and twisted so as to form the shank 2O and the laterally extending arms 21 which are bent downwardly at right angles to form the pins 22. Upon the shank 20 may be mounted a fia or any other desired ornamental device. omic or ornamental figures or designs should be painted upon the outside of the circular disks and it. should also be understood that various other figures not shown in the drawing might be easily used with my invention. wish to reserve the widest latitude in substituting figures for the two forms shown in the drawing.
The above drawing and description refer to the preferred form of my invention but I wish it understood that I may make such changes in arrangements, constructions and combinations of parts as may fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is In combination, an axle, a pair of disks mounted thereon, a counter balance carried by the axle, and provided with depending apertures in its top portion, and in its bottom portion with an elongated slot, a handle, spring arms extending from said handle, pintles provided on said arms, said pintles p Witnesses adapted to engage the device, a ferrule mounted upon the end of said handle, a rod pivotally connected to the ferrule and extending into said slot in said counter balance 15 and pivotally connected therein.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN F. CRIST.
BLANCHE E. SHEEHAN, J. C. OssMANN.
