To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALEXANDER C. DRUM- iroND, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Ilion, in the county of Herknner and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Gun-Cleaner, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in gun cleaners, and more particularly to a cleaner which can be used for cleaning the barrels of shotguns, rifles, or revolvers and which is provided with an improved arrangement of spiral cleaning blades which are capable of adjustment to correspond to the bore of the barrel to be cleaned.

A further object is to provide a cleaning tool of the character stated which is of ex tremely simple, inexpensive construction and strong and durable in use.

\Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in certainnovel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a view in elevation illustrating my improved cleaning tool.

Fig. 2 is a view of the stem with the spiral cleaning blades removed;

1 represents the stem of my improved cleaner which is provided at one end with a relatively large head 2, the latter having a hook 3 at its free end for the connection or attachment of a swab or cleaning material of any sort which can be effectually held and drawn out or through a barrel to clean the same. 7

The stem 1 is made with a screw threaded end 4' on which an adjusting nut 5 is mount-ed and any approved form of coupling device 6 may be employed to connect the stem with a rod of suitable length to manipulate the cleaner in the barrel of the gun.

The head 2 is made fiat on opposite sides as shown at 7, and is provided with a transverse opening 8 through which a wire 9 is projected. This wire 9 forms a pair of spiral cleaning blades 10, 10, the intermediate portion of the wire forming such blades being positioned through the opening 8 and adjacent said opening bent flat against the flattened portions 7 as. shown at 11, sov as to ass freely within the barrel.

other words, the spiral curvature of the blades is in opposite direction and the extreme ends of the blades are bent around the stem as shown at 12, and a washer 18 is interposed between the ends 12 and the nut 5, so that by adjusting thenut 5, the spiral blades 10, 10 can be either compressed or permltted to expand so as to give the necessary diameter and shape to'the cleaning blades to effectually clean the barrel of the gun.

The wire forming the blades 10, 10 is preferably of angularror rectangular shape in cross-sectlon so as to cleaning edges. 7

In operation, the device is moved through the barrel of the gun as is customary with ordinary cleaners, and the blades 10, 10 will effectually clean the interior of the barrel, an adjustment of the blades being had by means of the nut 5 as, above explained.

Arag or other form of swab can be connected to the hook 3 and drawn through the barrel so that the scraping and the rubbing or cleaning action of'the swab can be had either separately'or simultaneously .as may be desired.

Various slight changes might-be made in present scrap ng or the general form and arrangement of parts j described Without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make suchchanges and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and' scope of the appended claims.

I claim: 7

1. A cleaning device, comprising a stem, a head on one end of the stem having an opening therethrough, a wire having its intermediate portion projected through the opening and its ends positioned spirally around the stem forming cleaning blades, and adjustable means on the stem engaging the free ends of the blades.
