To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBION M. GoLDsTniN, a citizen of the United States, residing atthe city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Collar-Buttons and Necktie-Guiding Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof. y

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in combined collar buttons and necktie guiding devices, the prlncipal object of my invention being-to generally improve upon the existing types of similar devices and to provide a relatively s1mple device that is capable of being easily and cheaply produced, and which in use will be highly effective in detachably securlng a collar to the neckband of a shirt and at the same time supporting and guiding the necktie at the back of the collar so as to eliminate any tendency of the tie to bind while bemg pulled lengthwise through the collar when the said necktie is being adjusted; and, further, to provide a device of the class described which, when properly applied for use, will retain its position and at the same time firmly hold the collar and necktie in their proper assembled positions.

With the foregoing and other objects in view. my invention consists in certain new and novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combined collar button and necktie guiding device of my improved construction.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view, with partsin section, and showing my improved device in position for use.

The device as illustrated is constructed from a single piece of metal, of uniform width throughout its length, and the metal preferably having a certain amount of re siliency. The strip of metal is bent at a point intermediate its ends to form a flattened loop 10. which performs the functions of the head of the collar button, and extendinc at right an les from the center portion of this flattened loop or head are horizontallv disposed portions 11 which lie immediatelv adiacent to each other and which constitute the shank of the button, or that portion which passes through the button holes of the collar and collar band. From the end of the upper shank member 11 the strip of metal is extended vertically upward, as designated by 12, and fromthe upper end of the latter a strip of metal is bent downward, as designated by 13, thereby forming an inverted hook that'is open at its lower end, and which hook is adapted to receive and serve'as 'a support and guide for the tie when the latter is positioned between the folds of a collar.

From the end of the lower shank member 11 the strip of metal is extended downward to form a vertically disposed leg 14, that occupies substantially the same vertical plane with the upwardly projecting leg 12, and the terminal portion of the strip, or that portion below the depending leg 14, is bent upwardly on the same side of the device with the shank members 11 and head 10 to form a substantially U-shaped hook 15, which latter is positioned a short distance below the shank members 11.

It will be understood that my improved device is particularly designed for use in connection with the now generally worn high turnover collars, and when the device is applied for use the head 10 is inserted through the rear button hole of the collar and through the rear button hole of the neck band, as illustrated in Fig. 2, with the inverted U-shaped member comprising the parts 12 and 13 extended upwardly between the folds of the collar and immediately above the rear button hole therein. The inverted U -shaped member thus positioned provides a firm and substantial support for that portion of the tie that passes between the rear portions of the folds of the collar and said tie can be readily pulled lengthwise between the folds of the collar without any tendency to bind or twist. The hook portion 15 at the lower end of the device passes beneath the lower edge of the inner fold of the collar, directly below the button hole, and the forward leg of said U-shaped hook bears against the inner surface of the inner fold of the collar, thereby tending to retain the device in proper position and preventing its being tilted or shifted in either direction when the tie is moved through the upper portion of the device or lengthwise between the legs 12 and 13.

A combined collar button and necktie guiding device of my improved construction is comparatively simple, is capable of being easily and cheaply produced, and is very efi'ective in performing its intended functions. It Will be understood, of course, that various modifications in the size, form and construction of the parts of the device may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of my invention the scope of Which is set forth in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: a

l. A combined collar button and necktie guiding device constructed from a single strip of metal bent to form a head, a shank portion extending laterally from said head, an inverted U-shaped portion extending upwardly from said shank portion, and a U- shaped portion depending from said shank portion, With the outer leg of said U-shaped portion disposed beneath and on the same side of the device With the shank portion and the head.

2. The herein described collar button and necktie guiding device constructed from a single strip of metal, an intermediate portion of which is bent to form a substantially flat head, portions of said strip extending laterally from the center of said flat head to form a shank, one of the terminal portions of said strip being bent to form an inverted U-shaped hook that projects upwardly from one of the parts of the shank, and the other terminal portion of the strip being bent to form a U-shaped hook that depends from the lower shank member, and the outer leg of said U-shaped hook being positioned beneath and on the same side with theshank ofthe device.-
