essence.
Specification of Letters ream. "P t t M 29, 1 92p Application filed September '7, 1920. Serial No. 408,501.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we,'GnovER G. DAY and FmLnrN A. DAY, citizens of the United States, residing at. Straight Creek, 111 the county of Bell and State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvementsun Switches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in switches for railways and the principal object of the invention is to provide a movable tongue at the frog with means for actuatlng them by the switch operating means.
Another obj ect of the invention is to form the pivot pin and the pin to which the operating parts are connected, lntegral wlth the movable frog tongue and to provide openings in the frog for receiving said plns.
This invention also consists in certaln other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawlngs and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to" the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote llke or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a diagrammatic plan view of a switch constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the operating mechanism.
Figv 3 is a sectlonal view on line 3--3 of V Fig. 1.
Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views. I
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the bracket for the bell crank.
In these views A indicates the main line and B the branch line and (3 indicates the frog block located at the junction of the branch line withthe main line. 1 indicates a tongue movably supported. on the frog and working in the recess 2. This tongue has formed on its under face the pivot pin 3 which engages a hole 4 in the frog block, and the pin 5 which passes through the slide 6 which is mounted in the slot 7 formed in the block. These parts are suitably connected together and to the block. A bell crank lever 8 is pivotally mounted in a part of the block and has one arm connected with the slide by the link 9. The other arm of said bell crank is connected with one arm of the bell crank 10 by the link 11 which passes under one of the rails of the main line. The bell crank 10 is pivotally connected in the bracket 12 secured to a part of the track and the otherarm of said bell crank 10 is connected by alinkol3 with one arm of the bell. crank 14 which is pivotally mounted in the post 16 by the shaft 17 which passes through the post. The outer end of this shaft is connected with an operating lever 18. The other arm of the bell crank 14 1s connected with the bar 19 by the link 20, said bar 19 being connected with the train on the branch line can be directed on to the main line.
It is thought from the foregoing descrip tion that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
We desire it to be understood that we may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What we claim is 1. A switch of the class described comprising a frog block, a tongue pivoted therein, a pair of switch points and means for simultaneously moving said points and the tongue, said meansconsisting f a-manually operated shaft, means for connecting the same with the switch points, a slide in the block connected with the tongue, a bell crank mounted in the block and connected with said slide,.a second bell crank mounted on the track and links connecting said second bell crank with the first bell crank and with the shaft.
2. A switch of the class described comprising a switch frog block having a hole and a slot therein, a tongue having a pair of pins formed on its under. face, one of said pins engaging the hole for pivoting the tongue to the block, a slide in the slot and.
along the track, a link connecting the two bell cranks together, a post, a manually operateol shaft journaled therein, a bell crank on said post, a link connecting the same With the secondvbell crank, 21 pair of switch points and means for connecting the same with the bell crank in the post. 7 10 In testimony whereof We aifix our signetures.
