Be itknown that I WILLIAM H. WORK- nited States of America, residinfy at Beverly, in the county of Essex and btate of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Game Apparatus, of which t e following is a specification.

The object ci the invention is to provide a relatively simple and at the same time compactly oldab e game apparatus adapted for use in playing ames involving the exegree of skill involving eration of a unium and to this end the saine consists in a construction and conibination of parts hereinafter described, it being understood that changes in form and proportion may be resorte to within the scope of the claims Without departing from the princi les involved.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus with the displaceable pieces set up in position for playing one of the games for which the apparatus is adapted.4

Fig. 3 is a detail view showing the connection between the walls constituting the guard around the playing eld.

The apparatus consists essentially of a table 10 upon which are mounted dis laceable pieces or pins 11 disposed on en and a endulum 12 consisting of a flexible stem universally supported as at 13 and having a weighted ball or bob 14, said pendulum eing adapted to be swung under the directive control of the operator to bring the ball or bob into contact with the pins under such conditions as to displace one or more of the latter at each play, and it being understood that the seats or stations of the pins or the pins themselves may be lettered,numbered, or otherwise designated to indicate value as a means of counting or making scores when two or more players engage in the game. The table is preferably provided with sockets 15 forming'seats for the reception of the extremities of the pins or playing pieces 11 and is supported by legs.16 u on a licor or bottom 17 constituting the p aying board. The field represented by the suriiAN, a citizen of the the principle ot the o face of this board is preferably surrounded by a guardconsisting of the side walls 18 and end wall 19 which may be hinged together at 20 to permit of lfolding, the inner surfaces of said Walls being grooved as at 21 to receive the edges ot the Hoor or bottom 17, and the side walls bein held in engaging relation with said oor or bottom by means of thumbl nuts 22 en aged in terminal threaded stems 23 on e boards or elements forming the door or bottom. By this construction the apparatus can be knocked down to permit or" folding and packing in compact shape for storage or transportation. A sectional standard 24 is secured by a thumb bolt 25 or its equivalent at one corner of the inclosure, preferably at a short distance from the table and is provided with a horizontally extending arm 26 which terminally supports the pendulum. The su porting point of the pendulum is 'prefere 1y to one side of the table or the pin-supporting area, 'and when idle or hanging vertically and at rest the pendulum., is preferabl located opposite the forward portion of t e pin-su porting arm.

The vgame is playe by grasping the ball or bob and drawing it back to or beyond the rear Wall 19 and then releasing it with a swinging or directing movement which will cause -it to describe an arcpassing to the -front of the playing arca so that upon the return swing it will come in contact with the pin or pins to cause their displacement or removal from the stations in which they are placed upon the supportin area.

Obviousl any suitable ru es may be adopti ed for the aying of the game, and the number of di erent games involving dierent degrees of skill ma be devised to increase the interest or di culty of o eration, the general principle, however, being that the universally supported swingingball or bob is to be so directed or delivered by the operator as to cause it to describe a forward path 'withoutcontact with the playing ieces or pins and to contactv with said pins in order to make a point or points upon the return swinging movement. Obviously where the pla ers are less skilful it is posn sible to rovi e for the playing of ames in which t e ball or bob might be elivered from the opposite direction so as to contact withl.the pins on the forward swinging movement.
