Description

S. VOLZ.
RACK HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED AUG.I4, 1920.
1,371,279.- Patented Mar. 15,1921.
WITNESSES ATTORNEY I! TOD UNITED smi es SIMON VOLZ, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
BACK-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 15, 1921.
Application filed August 14, 1920. Serial No. 403,581.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMON VoLz, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, hlilwaukee county, and State of \Visconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rack-Holders, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
The invention relates to rack-holders for packing cases for bottles or containers, and has for its object to improve upon the construction covered by my United States Patent No. 1,015,278, for rack-holders, dated January 16,1912, in the manner of forming and securing the device to the box or crate.
The invention consists in the several features hereinafter set forth and more particularly defined by claims at the conclusion hereof.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box equipped with rack-holders embodying the invention; Fig. 2 is a detail interior view of the box, one of the partitions being shown in section; Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings the numeral i indicates a packing case or crate of any suitable construction provided with partitions 5. The ends of the partitions are held against displacement by rack-holders 6.
Each rack-holder consists of a piece of sheet metal bent to form a member U-shaped in cross section having sides or flanges 7 and a web or transverse portion 8. The lower end of the web is cut out to form with the sides 7 a square pocket 9. An opening 10 is provided in the web and a nail 11 or other suitable fastening means passes through said opening and is secured to the box to firmly secure the holder thereto, this manner of fastening the device being better than the use of a prong formed from the metal.
The holders are secured in position over the partit ons 5 by the nail 11, as shown in the drawings, with the partition held between the sides 7 and the lower edge 12 of the web and the edges of the sides bearing against the sides of the box.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A rack-holder comprising a member U-shaped in cross section having a notch formed in its transverse portion to form with its sides a pocket to receive a corner of the partition, the transverse portion of said member being spaced from the side of the box, and fastening means passing through said transverse portion and into the box to secure said member in place.
2. A rack-holder comprising a member. U-shaped cross section having a transverse portion spaced from its lower end with the lower edge of said transverse port on engaging the upper edge of the partition and theside portions of said member below said transverse portion receiving said partition between them, said transverse portion of said member being spaced from the side of the box, and fastening means securing said member to the box.
3. A rack-holder comprising a member U-shaped in cross section having a notch formed in its transverse portion to form with its sides a pocket to receive a corner of the partition.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature.
SIMON VOLZ.
