Description

L. E. BRADY. v
FOLDING CONTAINER AND FASTENING MEANS THEREFOR.
APPLlCATION FILED MAR. 31, 1919.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
mvr ELI nanny, or s1. ouis, urssounr.
' ronnme con'rnnna AND ras'rnume mums rnnnnron.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I LEVI E. BRADY, a citizen of the United states, residing at St. Louis, in the city of StxLouis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in Folding Containers and Fastening Means Therefor; and I do.
hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in collapsible boxes made of blanks of paper or other suitable material,
and so arranged as to reduce to a minimum fined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank out ready to be folded along the scored lines indicated.
Fig. 2 is a view of the container folded, with the fastening cord about the same.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a view of the folded container, showing a modified fastening means.
F Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line 5-5 of Fig. 6 is a still differently modified form of fastener, and
Fig. 7 is a sectional view on line 7-7 of Fig. 6.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A designates a blank of paper, or any other suitable material, which is scored along the parallel lines indicated by letter B, and transverse slits C are cut in from the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 15, 1921.
Application flied March 31, 1919 Serial No. 286,480.
opposite edges Fparallel to each other and forming flaps which are adapted tobe folded in the manner shown in the drawings whenthe blank 1s 1n readiness for use for containing any commodity. The flaps F and G have semiclrcular tabs 0 struck up therefrom and which are adapted to be folded in the manner shown to overlap the ad'acent ends of the flaps K, H, I and L, whi e the flaps M have central tabs R semi-circular in outline struck u therefrom and which, when the box 1s ormed, engage the adjacent ends of the side flaps K and L.
,In converting the blank into a container, the flaps F and G are first bent at right angles alongithe scored lines B, and afterward the flaps and I are bent up at right angles and then the latter with the intervening port onbent at right angles to the end adjacent to the tabs O.- The portion of the blank having the flaps K L are then bent at right angles, in the manner shown, with the corners of the fla s K, L, Hand I interlocking with the tabs after which the fla s M an N are. bent at right angles along t e scored line and folded inside of the other flaps, with the integral tabs It engaging over the e, H, I, K, L, M and N,
adjacent ed 5 of the longitudinal flaps L,
K, I, and respectively. A cord S is passed about the container over the tabs and then at right angles about the box, thus holding the tabs folded in the manner set forth.
In Fig. 4 of the drawings I have shown a modification of the invention, in which ieces of adhesive material Q, are fastened ongitudinally about" the container, and
which pieces are further reinforced by cross pieces Q, of adhesive material, thus securely holdin the parts in place. v
In ig. 6 is illustrated a still differently modified form, in which the adhesive strips P pass longitudinally about the container,
while other adhesive strips T are fastened over the corners at the ends of the container and a diagonally disposed adhesive strip T is applied to the strip P and container, thus securely holding the parts folded.
By the provision of a container and means 'for holding the parts folded, as set forth, a simple and efficient receptacle is provided for holding shoes and various other commodities, while the quantity of cord, tape, or
i other material for holding the parts folded appreciable saving in such rial scored along arallel longitudinal and cross lines upon w llCh the blank is adapted p to be folded, and having transverse slits in the opposite edges extending to said parallel longitudinal scored lines to form closure flaps, central semi-circular outlined tongues struck from said flaps with their inner ends in alinement with said longitudinal scored lines, said tongues, when the blank is folded along the scored lines to form a rectangular outlined closure, being positioned to overlap two of said closure flaps when in closed posi-- tion, said last mentioned closure flaps hav-. ing their edges practically abutting but not overlapping. i
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' e LEVI ELI BRADY.
