ADVERTISING DISPLAY APPARATUS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. AIMES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atohison, in the county of Atohison and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Display Apparatus, of which the following is aspecification.

T his invention relates to an apparatus for displaying advertisements, such as designs, samples of various articles or goods, photographs or analogous materials, and an object of the invention is to provide in adisplay apparatus of this type means for successively displaying a plurality of separate advertisement carrying boards or curtains, behind a transparent panel or window in a cabinet'of the display apparatus, thereby permitting the individual displaying successively, of a large number of advertise ments in a relatively small space, and also lending attractiveness to the display apparatus by the constant changing of the matter displayed.

The present invention relates to an advertising display apparatus of the type illustrated in the application filed July 31, 1919, Serial No. 314,548, an object of the present invention being to provide a display apparatus of this type which is relatively simple in construction and provides a plurality of guides, for guiding the movement of the advertising board carrying chains, for preventing them from accidentally becoming disconnected with guiding and drive sprockets and also to maintain uniform non-oscillating movement of the display-or advertising board.

Another object of the invention is to provide in a display apparatus as specified achain structure carrying a plurality of pick up members which are spaced at predetermined distances along the chain, and are adapted to engage the carrying rods of the sign boards, for moving them from exhibiting positions into non-exhibiting positions,

and for providing means simple in construction for releasing the display boards from the pick up or carrier members of the chain and depositing them upon an inclined guide structure over which they pass into an exhibiting position.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, wherein like characters indicate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, the improved display apparatus includes a cabinet 10 provided with a transparent panel or window 11 in the front side thereof, behind which the display boards 12 are positioned, for displaying the advertising matter thereon.

The display boards 12 are carried'by supporting rods 13, and these rods have guiding rollers 14 mounted thereon, the periphcries of which are concaved for fitting over the supporting guiding rails 15 of the rack structure 16. The rack structure 16 inclines downwardly from the rear wall of the ho using or casing 10 toward the front wall there-' of, to cause the display boards 12 to feed by gravity downwardly thereover for posiof guiding sprockets 18, which are mounted in the upper corners of the casing 10, as

Substantially concave-convex guide disks 33 are mounted upon the pins 20, with their convexed surfaces outwardly from the chains 15', and these washers will engage the inner surfaces of the pipes 29 to properly center the chains 15 therein and in case the chains are not properly alined with the pipes, upon the movement of the respective carriers to theinlet ends of the chains, the convexed surface of the guide disks 33 engaging the fiared mouths 30.will guide the chains into their proper positions and engaging the inner surfaces of the pipes durmg the' travel of the chains therethrough, will maintain the chains in centered position within the pipe.

The drivlng shaft 17 may be operated by any suitable type of prime mover, such as an electric motor illustrated at 40 in Figs. 1* and 2 of the drawings, the main drive shaft for operatingthe same.

I claim: 1. In an advertising display. apparatus, the combination, of a cabinet, provided with a display window, a supporting rack therein inclining toward saidwindow, a plurality of display boards, supported by sald rack and adapted to be moved under gravity action into displaying position behind said window, endless chains movable within said cabinet, carriers pivotally mounted upon said chains at spaced intervals and adapted to engage the display boards and move them, out of displayingpositions', stop members carried by said cabinet and adapted to hold said boards in displaying position behind the window and in position for engagement by said chain carried carriers, and tubular guides for receiving said chains to prevent accidental lateral movement of the chain 2. 4. In an advertising displa apparatus, the combination of a plurality 0 display boards adapted to be moved under gravity action into displayin positions, endless chains, carriers pivota 1y carried by said endless chains at spaced intervals, said carriers adapted to move said display boards out of displaying positions,tubular guides for receiving said endless chains, and substantially concavo-convex guide disks carried by said chains and presenting convexed surfaces for engagement with the interior of said tubular guides to properly center the chains within the guides.

5. In an advertising display apparatus, the combination of a plurality of display boards adaptedto be moved under gravity action into displaying positions, endless chains, carriers pivotally carried by said endless chains at spaced intervals, said carriers adapted to move said display boards out of displaying positions, tubular guides for receiving said endless chains, substanti lly concavo-convex guide disks carried by aid chains and presenting convexed surfaces for engagement with the interior of said tubular guides to properly center the chains within the guides, and cam members for removing said boards from said carriers.

In an advertising display apparatus, the combination of a cabinet provided with a displaying window, a rack, in said cabinet ass 8 and incliningtoward said displaying window, rails uponsaid rack, a plurality of display boards, rollers carried by said display boards and riding upon said rack, whereby the display boards will move under gravity action into display position behind said window, stop members carried by said cabinet for engagin said rollers to support said boards in display position and partly in advance of said rack, and means for moving said boards out of displaying positions.

7. In an advertising display apparatus, the

members carried within sald cabinet and adapted to engage said rollers for releasing them from said last named means and delivering them to said rack.

8. In an advertising display apparatus, the combination of a cabinet provlded with a displaying window, a rack in said cabinet and inclining toward said displaying win dow, a plurality of display boards, rods attached to the upper end of said display boards, rollers mounted upon said rods and engaging said rails whereby the display boards will be set under gravity action into display position behind said wlndow, heads upon the ends of said rods and means for engaging said heads and rods for moving the display boards out of display position.

9. In an advertising display apparatus, the combination of a cabinet, a display window in said cabinet, a rack in said cabinet inclining toward said display window, a plurality of rods, display boards carried by said rods and adapted to be supported by said racks for movement thereover under ravity action into display position behind sa1d window, heads upon the ends of said rods, endless chains movable within said cabinet, and carriers pivotally carried by said endless chains at spaced intervals and adapted to engage the heads on said rods to move said display boards out of displaying position.

10. In an .advertisin display apparatus, the combination of a ca inet, a display window in said cabinet, a rack in said cabinet inclining toward said display window, a

In an advertisin display apparatus, the combination of a ca inet, a display window in said cabinet, a rack in said cabinet inclined toward said display window, a plurality of rods,display boards carried by said rods, rollers arranged to engage said racks carried by said rods, the boards being adapted to be supported by said rollers for moving over said rack under gravity action into displaying position behind. said window, heads upon the ends of said rods, endless chains movable within said cabinet, carriers pivotally carried by the endless chains at s aced intervals adapted to engage the hea s and said rods to move said display boards out of displaying position, cam members arranged within sald cabinet directly in 'rear of said rack for raisin and movin said rods forwardly on to sai rack and o of said carriers, and concave stop blocks arranged within the cabinets directly in front of said rack for supporting said display boards partly in advance of saidrack in display position behind said window and in position to be engaged by said chain carried carriers.

13. In an advertisin display apparatus, the combination of a ca inet, a display window in said cabinet, a rack in said cabinet inclining toward said display window, a plurality of rods display boards carried by said rods and adapted to be supported by said racks for movement thereover under gravity action into display position behind said window, enlarged heads upon the terminals of said rods, endless chains movable within said cabinet, carriers pivotally secured to said chains at spaced intervals, the upper ends of said carriers being recessed to receive the rods, the inner faces of said carriers at the. upper end thereof being cut vout to receive said heads, the lower ends of said carriers being weighted, so as to normally hold the same in-a vertical position, means arranged within thecabinet for moving said rods fromoif of,said carriers and delivering them to. said rack, and stop blocks carried by the cabinet for supporting said display board in displaying position.
