Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,685, dated Marchll, 18773.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, J oHN H. Voer and GEORGE DIETZEL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Waist-Belt, of which the followingis a specication:
Uur invention consists of a new and improved' waist -belt for 1adies.Wear, which is Woven of a fancy warp of silk cord for the front, a back or bindin g-warp of gimp or strong thread for. the body, fine silk Warps for the borders, and a weft of'gimp, both the cord for the Warp vand the gimp for the weft being coarse and-heavy, to produce a substantial article of sufcient stiffness for a belt Woven' Withopen meshes; but We also propose to weave them close in some cases, although we prefer to make them open.
Up to the present time belts of woven stuif havebeen made exclusively of ribbons and namental-as those Woven of cord and gimp, as We propose, lack thc stiffness and body required for such articles.
Figure 1 represents our'improved belt as it is appliedv to the wearer in use. Fig. 2 is a plan view of a section of the belt. Fig. 3 is a Similar letters of reference indicate corre-L sponding parts.
A represents a section of the belt, which is composed of the fancy Warp of cord B andthe gimp weft C for the front of the body portion, with the fine Warps D, of silk or any equivalent, for the borders, and the binding-Warps El for the back. The binding-Warp E secures the weft and the cord-warps B, by the latter being passed under the, binding-warp E and up altcrnately on opposite sides and over the weft which is above the binding-Warp altogether.
We propose to modify the order of bindin g the fabric together in this Way as we Wish, and We will vary the colors and patterns by Warp and weft of different colors as we may nd it desirable to do.
A belt composed of the material above described can be made highly ornamental, as well as very strong and durable.
Having thus described our invention, We claim as new and desire to secure by Lett-ers Patent- As an improved article of manufacture, a waist-belt formed by a combination of fancy cord B for the Warp and gimp O for the weft, with a binding-Warp, E, and borders of ne Warp, substantially as specified.
JOHN H. VOGT. GEORGE DIETZEL.
