IMPROVEMENT IN PADS FOR HORSES FEET.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,814, dated February ll, 1873.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JONATHAN J oHNsoN, of

2 is a view of thepad, which enters the cavity formed by the shoe, and acts upon the frog of the foot. Figs-3, 4, and 5 are modifications, showing different methods of securing the pads to the foot.
This invention relates to pads which are used for packing and protecting horses feet, and which are frequently saturated with medicated solutions to remove or prevent lameness or other ailments of the foot and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, as hereinafter described and claimed. s
A is a pad composed of a material of suflicient strength to support the several parts attached for securing it to the hoof, and may be covered with any iieXible material. To the rear of this pad is attached, by rivets or other suitable means, a. heel-strap, E, having a loop, a, through which the strap D is passed. To the forward end of the pad A front piece B is secured, which covers `the front and sides of the hoof. This piece is generally formed of leather, but may be made of sheet metal or other flexible material possessing sufficient tenacity and' durability. It is lined with the same materials as are used for covering the frog-pad, and is very useful, as it aifords a convenient means for softening or applying medicine to the outer surface of the hoof. To
one extremity of this part B is attached a shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 5 of the drawing,
their sole purpose being to secure and hold firmly in place the front of the boot or pad.
In order to secure the device. firmly upon the foot of a horse the buckling-strap Dis passed through the loop a on the heel-piece E, the boot is then placed upon the foot, the pad entering the cavity formed by the shoe. The heel-piece is then turned up and the buckling-strap passed through the buckle b, or through the loops of the fastenin gs C.Y Upon drawing up and buckling the strap the boot will be securely fastened in its proper position upon the foot.
