I accomplish the ob ects or my inventlon by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.

A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part ofthis specification, in which:

In the drawing similar; reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional view is taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.

Referring to the drawing, 1 represents the seat, 2 the front legs and 3 the rear legs. In the structure illustrated, the rear legs are extended into back member a connected at their upper ends by the top cross piece 5. These back members have longitudinal slots 6 near their. upper ends with recesses 7 opening into the rear sides oi the slots.

I provide a ladder member comprising the risers 8 and steps 9. The risers are provided with pivots 10 at their upper ends engaging the slots 6 so that the ladder member may be collapsed between the back members as Specification of Letters Patent.

shown in Figs. I, II and III, or extended to rest on the seat as shown in Fig. IV. The stop 11 extends across the rear of the seat to limit the rearward swing of the ladder member which in its collapsed position forms a part of the back of the chair, the steps then constituting cross piecestor the back. The ladder member may, however, be swung to an outwardly inclined position as shown in Fig. IV with the pivots engaging the lower; ends of the slots and the cross piece engaging or resting upon the ladder meni bar, inwhich position the ladder member constitutes. legs to support the chair in a horizontal position resting on its front legs.

The ladder member may also be adjusted to an approximately verticalposition with its pivots engaging the notches or recesses 7 and the sides of the legs engaging the top cross piece to support the chair in another horizontal position, a pair of auxiliary legs 12 being provided to coact with the ladder member in supporting the chair in this position as shown in Fig. V. The legs 12 are pivoted at 13 between the front legs so as to collapse under the seat as shown in the drawing.

The lens may, however, be extended as shown in Fig. V, in whichposition they coact with the ladder member in supporting the chair so that it serves as an ironing board support or the like. A slide it is provided for holding the auxiliary legs in their extended position, the slide being mounted below the seatto be extended behind the cross piece 15 when the legs are erected as shown in Fig. V. A buttonlG is providedior holding the auxiliary legs in their collapsed position, the button being pivoted on the cross piece 17 to be swung down in front of the cross piece 15 of the legs or collapsed as shown in Figs. I and III. llIy improved chair is readily adjusted or convertible for use as a chair or as a step ladder, as an ironing board support or as a wash bench or the like.

I have shown parts in the accompanying drawings mainly in conventional form for convenience in illustration. I have not attempted to show certain modifications and adaptations which I contemplate as I believe the disclosure made will enable those skilled in the art to which my invention relates to adapt or embody the same as may be desired.

Having thus described my invention,
