To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD T. CAM E msorr, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacle Attachments for Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to means for providing storage accommodations on the under-side of a bed, and more particularly to receptacle attachments of this character adapted for ready connection to ordinary bedsteads. The main objects of the invention are to provide such areceptacle attachment positioned to clear the bed-spring, and capable of ready connection to and re moval from a bedstead of the usual construction having side rails; to provide a storage attachment of drawer-like character capable of being pulled forward readily for access to the interior and adapted to be effectually concealed by the bed when restored to its normal position; and to pro vide an improved form of track and supporting means for the receptacle.

An illustrative embodiment of this in vention is shown in theaccompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bedstead with the attachment in place, part of the bedstead beingbroken away, as will be understood.

Fig.2 is a perspective view of one of the tracks whereon the receptacle is reciprocatingly mounted.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of an intermediary support or side bar.

Fig. 4 shows a vertical cross-section of the bedstead with the attachment inend elevation, the receptaclebeing in its forward position and the cover partly raised.

Fig. 5 is a fragmentary vertical sectional View on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.

In the construction shown in the drawings, the attachment 1 as a whole is secured to the bedstead 2, being suspended from the under side thereof. aid attachment comprises a pair of tracks 3 having upturned ends adapted for attachment to the side rails 1, and a receptacle 5 mounted reciprocatingly on said tracks for movement forward and backward to positions'of accessibility and concealment respectively.

Said receptacle is box-like in character and is provided with downwardly facing shouldered supporting means 6 in the form of flanged bars or brackets disposed one at each end, where they are fastened by screws or the like. Said brackets 6, though adaptto ride directly on the tracks 3, are carried on intermediate truckdike means 7 Each of the trucks 7 includes a rectangu la-r bar 8 disposed horizontally with one of its edges 9 facing upwardly to serve as a track for the member 6, and with its other edge 10 disposed downwardly to bear upon the supporting means 11 hereinafter described. The rear end of said bar is provided with a downward projection 12 whereby an L-shaped bracket results. The upper and lower edges of said bar are provided with rollers 13 and 14. Another roller constituting the supporting means 11 is' to the downward flange whereby movement of the box on said member 7 is substantially frictionless. Rollers 18' may well be secured to the box to bear against the underside of the bar 8 to prevent tilting of the box. In Fig. 5 the box supports are more nearly of inverted channel shape, as indicated at 6'.

Each of the tracks 3 comprises a plural ity of sections, two being shown in this instance, namely, a short rear section 19 and a forwardly disposed main section 20, both fitting at their overlappingends in a common guide member 21 in which they are slidably mounted for adjusting the length of the track according to the width of the bedstead. The front section is provided with an upwardly turned arm 22 having a horizontal bearing 23 at its upper end for resting on the rail 41. The rear section has a similar arm 2% having a horizontally disposed tip 25 to rest on the rear rail of the bedstead. Fastening means are provided on each of said arms comprising a thumb screw 26 mounted in a horizontal bearing 27 on the outer side of the arm, so that upon turning the screw in one direction the rail 4 is clamped between the track bearing tip and'said screw.

The box 5 is preferably closed dust-tight, and for this purpose is provided with a lid 28 having hinges 29 atits rear edge. Said lid is preferably jointed foldably so as to give access to the frontof the box when-it is pulled forward only a short d stance, and for this purpose is provided with a hinge 30 near the center. In. order to facilitate drawing the boX forward, a handle or pull 3i is provided on thefrontside.

The operation of the device 18 as follows:

As soon as the box is pulled forward sufficiently the front half of the lid may be folded over on'the rear half and then the rear half may swing, carrying with it the front half,'as willbeunderstood. In order toclosc thedevice and restore same, tliereverse operation is followed. In fitting the device to a bed the tracks 3 are firstapplied to the bed rails a in suitably spaced relation to accomodate the box 5, whereupon the box is set in place substantially as shown in Fig. 1. i

Although but one embodiment of the main features of this invention is herein shown and described, it'is to be understood thiatnumerous details of the construction shown and described may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of this invention as defined by the following claims.

A bedstead iircombination with a" drawer-like receptacle, 'means secured to the bedstead for slidably supporting said receptacle, and a ointed foldable cover hinged at its rear edge to the back part of said re ce'ptacle, said cover being foldable wholly or in part to more or less open the recep tacle when it is advanced on said supporting means, the front section ofsaid cover being 7 adapted and arranged to be opened first, and to be swung back upon the adjacent section which may then be swung carrying with it the first mentioned section.
