Description
UNITED STATES PATENT Orrrcn.
JESSE ATKINSON, OF CAMERON, TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DUMPlNG-PLATFORMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,653, dated February 11, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JESSE ATKINSON, of Cameron, in the county of Milam and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Cart-Loader, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a vertical transverse section of my improved cart-loader. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to apparatus for dumping earth into carts or other receptacles; and consists in the arrangement of springs and spring-levers with the hinged doors or sections of a platform, as hereinafter described, whereby when a quantity of earth has been dumped the said sections will return of themselves to their previous position, ready to receive a new load or supply.
A in the drawing represents the frame of my improved apparatus, made of wood, sufficiently high to let a cart stand under its top platform a. Part of this platform is formed by two doors B B, which are hinged at I) b in the top a, and which when closed horizontally, as in Fig. 1, rest on sliding props d 01. These props are connected with levers O, which are pivoted to the under side of the platform a, and which connect by chains 6 c with an upright shaft, D. By turning the latter so that the chains 6 are wound upon it, the levers C are so vibrated as to withdraw the props from under the doors. As soon as the chains are unwound from the shaft D, the props will be reapplied under the doors by means of springs f that bear against the levers O, as shown. The doors B B are closed by springs F or weight, to be always in the position shown. unless opened by the weight of the earth upon them.
When a quantity of earth sufficient to make a load has been deposited upon the doors and platform a, the shaft D is turned by hand, withdrawing the props from under the doors, and letting these be opened by the weight of the earth on top. The doors will then swing downward, and will properly convey their load into the receptacle beneath.
The earth can be brought to the top of the platform by means of draft animals ascending on inclined ways and drawing the scrapers or barrows, or by men or machinery.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the springs F and their chains, the levers O, springs f, prongs d d, chains 6, and shaft D, with the hinged doors or sections B B, as and for the purpose specified.
JESSE ATKINSON.
