following: The garment may be worn conveniently in four different ways, to wit; as a regular overall with suspenders and bib; as a hip overall without bib; as a complete union suit or union overall; or as an overall with bib and jacket without suspenders; the jacket and the trousers are separate and means is provided to adjustably connect the same to suit short-waisted men or longwaisted men and in a manner that a proper fit of the garment will be obtained with either adjustment; the form and arrangement of the jacket and trousers are such that the usual surplus material provided in overalls to afford convenience in donning and removing the same is absent from my improved garment and yet convenience in the donning and removing of the garment is promoted in addition to affording a proper fit; the jacket is given a proper fit by reason of having a coat form presenting a three-seam cut back with coat sleeve and shoulder effect making it entirely free from bagginess when worn: all buttons on the trousers are hidden by the members of the waistband or belt; a detachable bib forming part of the garment has button holes at the interior in position to engage hip buttons, the top fly button, and additional buttons provided on the trousers at the belt, the additional buttons when the bib is not used being covered by portions of the trousers Waistband to be concealed thereby. The above and other objects as will appear are attained by the novel form and arrangement of parts hereinafter particularly described and defined ,in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.

In carrying out my invention in practice, trousers 10 are provided, a separate jacket 11, a bib 12, separate from the trousers and jacket, and suspenders 13.

The trousers are of that type having a known arrangement of drop seat and the distinctive features of my improved suit conform to said type of trousers. Thus the trousers have side openings 14 extending downwardly through the belt or band a suitable distance, the front and back portions at said openings being provided with suitable fastening means such as buttons 15 on the one member below the tops of the openings, and button holes 16 in the other member to receive said buttons; together with hip buttons 17 on the back or front of the garment at said opening and mating corresponding button holes 18.

On the trousers, at the waistband or belt 20, on the front and back, at the inner side, are series of buttons 19 and these are adapted to detachably engage in button holes 21 on the jacket 11 at the bottom. 'It will be observed that the buttonholes 21 are arnumeral 22. The fit and shape of the garment are preserved nothwit'hstanding the connection of the trousers thereto and the jacket as well as the trousers ma be conveniently donned or removed wit out pro- -viding for the purpose surplus material such as usually present in overalls of the general character and rwults in a baggy appearance in addition to the increased cost 10 for material.

The bib 12 is ada ted to be fastened at the lower end to t e waistband of the trousers 10 as follows: Two buttons 23 are provided on the front of the garment be- 15 neath the outer layer of the belt or waistband and the material of said outer layer is free at its lower end adjacent to said buttons 23 so that as in Fig. 1 said material may be raised above the button to permit 20 engagement in button holes 26 formed in the material of the bib 12 in the inner layer or waistband portion as will be clear from a comparison of Figs. 5 and 6. Additional button holes 26 at the sides of the bib and a 25 central button hole 26 in said bib are adapted to be engaged respectively with the hipbuttons and with the button 24 on the trousers at the top of the fly. On the bib at the top and preferably disposed at the 0 inner side are buttons 27, one at each side of the bib, and these are adapted to be engaged by the front ends of the suspenders 13, there being provided for the purpose on said suspenders in the illustrated example, wire loops 28. Provision is made for fastening the upper end of the bib 12 to the jacket 11 when the suspenders are not worn for which purpose button holes 29 are provided in saidjacket in osition to be engaged by the buttons 27 0 or more button holes 29 are provided, one above the other, and preferably invertical alinement or approximately so that the buttons 27 may engage mating button holes 29 in the raised or lowered position of the bib due to the en gagement of the buttons 19 in the upper or lower button .holes '21 of the jacket. Also, if desired, a button hole 30 may be formed in the bib 12 near the top in position to be engaged by the button 31 which is provided for fastening the flap 32 of the pocket 33 on the jacket 11 at one side of the front opening. The jacket 11 at the vertical front opening may be provided with any suitable fastening means, there being indicated buttons 36 and corresponding button holes 37.

The suspenders 13 in the illustrated example are made up of cross straps united together at the crossing as at 38. The rear suspender ends are shown as provided with button holes 39 to engage any of the buttons 19 on the waistband at the back. Ad-

vantageously, also, the straps of the suspenders have elastic sections 40 therein.

'With the described arrangement the complete suit may be worn as in Fig. 8, or a union overall may be provided by connecting the jacket 11 with the trousers 10 as in Fig. 1, the bib and suspenders being omitted, or as shown in Fi 2 the jacket may be omitted and the bib and suspenders employed and connected with the trousers in the manner described. When the overall is worn without the jacket the several trousers 7.5 buttons pertaining to the jacket, are hidden in pockets or coverings presented by the waistband. Again, the bib may be Worn with the jacket and the suspenders omitted. the bib being fastened at the bottom to the so buttons of the trousers and at the top fastened to the jacket at the button holes 29, 30. Or, the jacket, bib and suspenders may be omitted and the trousers worn as a hip overall as in Fig. P. In the manufa::- g ture of the garment any suitable material may be employed and in practice, the garment may be made in sizes to suit men. women, or children.

The described adjustable connection be tween the trousers and the lower portion of the jacket is of particular value in making it possible to readily and properly adjust the combined jacket and trousers to vary the length thereof from the neck to the crotch in adjusting the garment to men with long bodies or. short bodies. The described coat in practice is cut and designed so as to conform specially to and fit the overall. This will take care of the surplus yardage that is generally used in the old-fashioned suit coat. Also, the suit has not the surplus cloth atthe waistline or the surplus cloth in the seat and crotch which are usual with the union overall.

It will be seen that when the suspenders are worn they constitute a supporting means for the top of the bib and when the suspenders are omitted and the bib worn with the jacket the latter constitutes a supporting means for the upper end of the bib.

I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limlt myself strictly to the mechanical details herein illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. As an article of manufacture, an overalls including trousers, buttons thereon adjacent to the top, and a separate jacket having series of button holes therein near the bottom edge thereof, said holes being formed directly in the material forming the body of the jacket and the holes of the respective series alining vertically and being respec- I tively adapted to receive said buttons to afford access to the buttons,

fasten the trousers at higher or lower points on the jacket to suit wearers having long or short bodies.

2. A garment of the class described including trousers, buttons thereon at the waistband, said waistband presenting an outer ply free at its lower edge and adapted to conceal said buttons or to be raised to and a detachable bib having at the bottom portion thereof button holes positioned to be engaged by said buttons.

3. In a combination garment, trousers, a bib thereon, a jacket, and means to detachably secure the upper portion of the bib to said jacket.

4. In a combination garment, trousers, a bib thereon, a jacket, and means to optionally fasten the upper portion of the bib detachably to the jacket at different heights on the latter.

5. A combination garment including trousers, a jacket, means to optionally fasten the lower portion of the jacket at different heights on the latter to said trousers, a bib on the trousers, and means to detachably fasten the upper portion of the bib to the jacket at different heights on the latter to accord with the fastening of the trousers to the jacket at different heights.

6. A combination garment including trousers a bib thereon, a separate jacket, means to fasten the upper portion of the bib detachably to the jacket, and a button on the jacket below said fastening means, and a button hole in said bib in position to be engaged by said button.

7. A garment of the class described, including trousers having a waistband presenting an outer ply free at its lower edge, buttons on said trousers at the exterior between the sides and fly thereof above said free edge of the waistband to be adapted to be concealed by the latter or to be exposed by the raising of said free edge, buttons on the waistband at the interior, a jacket having series of button holes at different heights and optionally engageable by said last-mentioned buttons to connect the trousers with the jacket at different heights on the latter,

.a detachable bib having at the bottom thereof button holes positioned to be engaged by the first-mentioned buttons; together with coacting means on said bib at the top and on said jacket to secure the top of the bib at different heights on the jacket to accord with the height at which the trousers are secured to the jacket.
