TOY.
I Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 12, 1920.
Application filed my 31, 1919, sci-1&1 No. 300,794. Renewed July 26, 1920. Serial No. 399,191.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Es'rnL O. Bonn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Long Beach, in the county'of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification. 3 r
This invention relates to toys of the. velocipede type and the principal object of the invention is to make the body in the form of a horse and to mount'the' same so that it may rock on the supporting frame.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for rocking the body'as the device is moved.
Still another object of the invention is to provide means for steering the device and to provide pedals for actuating the device.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which v Figure 1 is a side view of the device;
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 -2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 8 is a rear view with parts brokenv away; i
Fig. 4C is a longitudinal sectional view; Fig. 5 is a detailed View.
In these views 1 indicates the hollow body of the device which is made in the form of a horse. The under part of the body is formed with the openings 2 and 3 into which the front leg Land the rear legs 5 project. These legs are connected together by the bowed piece 6 which is located within the body and has one end secured to the rear legs and its other end is pivotally connected to the front legs by the standard 7 which is connected with the upper end of the front leg. The upper end of this standard passes through an opening 8 in the upper edge of the body and is provided with a handle 9 so that the upright may be rotated to move the front leg to start the device. The bowed piece 6 has secured thereto a bracket 10 which has its upper end pivoted to the upper part of the interior wall of the body as at 11. By this means the body may, be
rocked about said pivot. 7' The front leg is provided with a forked lower part in whichthe front wheel 12 is journaled and the axle of this wheel is provided with the, crank ends 18 which are provided with pedals so that the device may be operated by the feet.
The rear legs 5 have their upper ends connected together and said legs diverge and their lower ends support the rear axle 14 upon the outer ends of which are journaled the wheels 15. The shaft 14 is provided with a crank part 16 and a link 17 connects this crank part with a lug 18 depending from the upper interior wall of the body.
It will thus be seen that as the device travels along, the rear shaft will, by means of the crank 16 and link 17, cause the horse to rock about the pivot 11 so that the horse will be given a galloping motion as it is pedaled along.
It is thought from the foregoing. descrip-i prising a hollow body made in the shape of" an animal, front and rear legs projecting into said hollow body, wheels connected with said said legs, pedal means connected with one wheel, a crank connected with the other wheels and a link connecting said crank with the hollow body to cause the same to rock as the same moves along.
2. A device of the class described comprising a'hollow body made in the shape of a horse, front and rear legs projecting into the said hollow body, a connecting piece having one end connected with the rear legs and its other end pivotally connected with the front leg, a bracket carried by said piece and to which the hollow body is pivotally connected, steering means connected with the front leg, wheels carried by said legs, pedal means connected with the front wheel, a crank connected with the rear wheel and a link connecting said crank with the hollow bodv.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature- ESTEL O. BOND.
