JOHN W. HENRY, oE NEW YORK, N. Y.
SEAT-FASTEN IN Gr DEVICE.
Application filed .Tune 16,
T o all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN W. HENRY, a citizen of the United States, residin at New York city, in the county of New ork and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seat-Fastening Devices; and I do declare the following tov be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
IMy invention relates to easily attachable and detachable seats and the present embodiment is designed more particularly for a chair seat, although otherwise usable.
The object of the invention is to provide for attaching the seat by a novel fastening means which will be simple, inexpensive, easy to manufacture and apply, and highly desirable and elicient in use.
lVith the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel device herein described and claimed, and shown in the accompanying drawing.
Figure l is a bottom plan view of a chair seat embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 2 2 of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a fasteners. y
In carrying out my invention, Il attach a plurality of preferably resilient metal strips l to the bottom of the seat 2, in such manner as to allow them to slide, the outer ends of said strips being bent downwardly at 3 to abut the inner edge of a seat frame 4, being then bent horizontally outward at 5, and
perspective view of one of the iinally bent upward and provided with teeth 6 to bite the lower side of the seat frame, in such manner however as to slide thereon when desired.
'The strips 1 may be attached wherever desired and headed studs 7 are preferably used for this pur ose, passing through slots 8 in said strips. h e studs are carried by the seat 2 and may well be in the form of shouldered rivets as shown, although screws or Specification of Letters Patent.

quired, said seat may be removed by sliding the fasteners to a released position, and possibly by turning them around the studs as pivots. Either the resiliency of the strips l or the friction thereof against the seat may be relied upon to hold the teeth engaged with the frame when in use.
The form of the device shown is preferable but may be varied within the scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim- The combination with a seat adapted to rest on a frame, of studs depending from said seats and having heads on their lower ends, and fasteners comprising strips of metal of uniform width throughout their lengths, approximately half the length of said strips having longitudinal slots receiving said studs, one end of the slots being enlarged to allow passage of said heads therethrough when attaching and removing the fasteners, said strips being bent downwardly at the inner ends of said slots, being then bent horizontally away from said slots, and finally bent upwardly and toothed to engage the lower side of the seat supporting frame; the distance between the upper ends of the teeth and the slotted parts of the strips being less than the vertical thickness of the frame, whereby said strips must be sprung and placed. under tension in order to engage the teeth with the frame.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JoHNw. HENRY.
