UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES REMHOF, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,488, dated February 4, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAS. REMHOE, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combined Tobacco-Box and Match-Box; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
The invention consists of a new article of manufacture for the reception of tobacco and matches, constructed as hereinafter described.
Figure l is a vplan view of tobacco-box and match-box. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional elevation through the closed tobacco-box and matchbox.
A is the sheet-metal box, from which I divide off a space, B, along the side, to which the covery C is hinged by an angle-plate, I), inclosing two sides of said space, which, on the other two sides, will be inclosed by the bottom and rear side of the box. Then I cut a hole through the side ofthe box, at one end of this space B, as large as the transverse area of it, and introduce a sliding match-box, E, which I prevent from coming out again by a sprn g, F, attached to the box E suitably for comin g against the cup G, so as to arrest the box when it is pulled ont far enough. This spring will also bear upon the bottom I of the tobacco-box to prevent, by friction, the box E from sliding open in the pocket.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, the sheetmetal box, partitioned for the reception of the drawer, said drawer having a retaining-check,
and the hinged sides of the box being braced by said partition, substantially as described.
