Myinvention pertains more particularly to a lather brush comprising `a handle a-nd bristles, the knot'ofV the bristles being held by suitableinner and outer ferrules and the bristles being adapted to be concealed within the handle of the brush oreXposed outwardly herefrom for use, said handlev `being ,in ,hinged together sections adapted to be opened outwardly tok receive the bristles or .to permit the same to. be removed `from the handle, and said outer ferrule being adapted to lock the sections of the handle in closed position, both when the bristles are kwithin the handle and when said bristlespare in 'eX- posed position.

The .object of theinvention is to produce a very durable and convenient conbrush in which theyhandle is formed of hinged parts and'adapted to receive the bristles of the brush Aand in which the sections of the handle may be conveniently locked together between the inwhenr the bristles are ner and outer ferrules of the brush, both Within the handle and when extended outwardly for use, it being the purpose that thevbristles shall be concealed within thehandle .when not in use. The invention will be fully understood description hereinafter presented, Vreference being .had to the accompanying'drawings, in which:

Fig-7 is a vertical section, on an enlarged a portion of the inner and outer ferrules holding the knot of the brush.

In the drawings, 10 designates the handle l of the brush7 11 the bunch of bristles, 12 the inner ferrule which receives the knot end 13 of said bunch of bristles, and 14 the outer iierrule carried by said inner ferrule and which is locked thereto, and at its upper andlower portions spaced ,therefrom by annular spaces 1 5, 16, respectively. v Y

The handle 10 is formed oftwo corresponding semi-cylindrical sectionsj17, 18 which are longitudinal and -match each other and are hinged together at the upper end ofthe handle by means of a hinge 19. VI number the upper end of the handle, as a whole, 2,0,

disks which are integral with the longiltudinal handle sections17, 18 and connected by the hinge 19. The upper end 2O of the handle yis countersunk so that, when desired, the brush may be stood on end, the hinge 19 being within the recess formed by the countersinking of said end 20. 2. A brush of the character described comprising a bunch of bristles, a ferrule en# gaging the knot of the bunch, a cap closing the'outer end of and affording a finished end forlsaid ferrule over the end of the knot and having an annular flange engaging the end of said knot, an outer ferrule secured to the aforesaid ferrule and at its upper and lower edges spaced therefrom to afford annular recesses, and a hollow handle comprising separable longitudinal sections having at their inner ends cylindrical portions adapted to enter the aforesaid annular recesses, the bunch with its ferrules being detachable from the handle and said bunch being Vadapted to be conined within the handle or arranged to extend therefrom, said outer ferrule iny both positions of the bunch serving to bind the sections of the handle in closed relation.
