particular reference to power operated razors.
Important objects of the invention are to provide a razor of the above mentioned character which will simplify and shorten the usual process of shaving, which will dispense with thenecessity of lathering the face, which will not require the usual keen cuttingedge, which is self-sharpening to a considerable extent,'which is highly safe in operation, and which will cut the hairs in a proper and close manner without injury to the skin and will leave the skin in a healthy condition.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,

. In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 designates the sides of a frame, carried by a base 11. This base is ada ted forinsertion between spaced sides 1 carried by the free end of a tubular support 13. The sides 10 are provided with spring catches 14, to engage withinopenings 15 formed in the tubular support 13. t is thus seen that the frame of the razor is detachably secured to the free end of the tubular support. Extending centrally within the frame of the razor is a main pivot shaft 16, secured to the sides 10 of the frame. This pivot shaft arrangement.
extends through and supports the body portion 17 of the rocker cutter, provided with rearwardly extending operating arms 31. The body portion 17 is provided upon its forward side with one or more longitudinally inclined or helical blades 18, having oppositely arranged shearing edges 19 and 20.
The numeral 21 designates coacting blades, pivotally supported by shafts 22, se-
cured to the sides 10. The forward portions of the blades 21 are bent laterally and ex tend across the rocker cutter. The blades 21 are provided with straight shearing edges 23. These shearing edges permanently slidably contact with the blades 18, and the device is therefore self-sharpening, in whole or part. The blades 21 are permanently spaced, as shown in Fig. 4:, providing an opening 24:, as the blade or blades 18 cannot enter this opening by virtue of its helical In the blades 21 are holes 32 which have two duties, one to relieve an heating of the blades, .and the other to a low hairs cut to escape from the razor.
At their ends, the blades 21 carry rearwardly extending arms 25, apertured at 26, for loosely receiving pins 27, which in turn carry compressible coil springs 28, serving to engage the arms 25 and swing the blades 21 inwardly, whereby these blades have their edges 23 held in yielding slidable contact with the blades 18.
The numeral 29 designates a rotatable operating shaft, suitably mounted within the tubular support 13 and driven by an electric motor or other suitable means. This rotatable shaft 29 is provided at its forward end with a cam head 30, fitting between the arms 31, and adapted to impart an oscillatory movement to the body portion 17 of the rocker cutter. The vibratory movement of the body portion 17 of the rocker cutter, may be effected by a vibrating arm fitting between the arms 31, the operating power being supplied to the vibrating arm by an electric coil incased in 13.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The rocker cutter is continuously OSClllated and its shearing blade 18 reciprocated beneath and in slidable contact with the shearing edges 23. 2. A razor of the character described comprising a frame, a shaft arranged centrally therein, a rocker cutter carried-by the shaft and provided upon its forward side with a helical blade having oppositely arranged shearing edges, rearwardly spaced arms carried by the rocker cutter, means engaging the arms to oscillate them, a pair of shafts secured to the frame andarranged upon opposite sides of the first-named means, and coacting blades pivoted upon the last-named shafts and having their forward ends extending across the rocker cutter and provided with spaced shearing edges slidably contacting with the helical blade.

A razor of the character described comprising a frame, a shaft arranged centrally therein, a'rocker cutter carried by the shaft and provided upon its forward side with a helical blade having oppositely arranged shearing edges, rearwardly spaced arms carried by the rocker cutter, means engaging the arms to oscillate them, a pair of shafts secured to the frame and arranged upon opposite sides of the first-named means, coacting blades pivoted upon the last-named shafts and having their forward ends extending across the rocker cutter and provided with spaced shearing edges slidably contacting with the helical blade, and yielding means to move the coacting blades into contact with the shearing blade.
' 4. A razor of the character described comprising a support, a vibrating cutter member arranged therein and having a shearing blade, means to move the member, coacting blades arranged upon the opposite sides of the member and having spaced shearing edges arranged in proximity to the shearing blade, rearwardly extending apertured arms secured to the ends of the coacting blades, shafts held within the apertures, and compressible coil springs carried by the last-named shafts and engaging the apertured arms.
