Description

G. W. DECKER. STOP AND WASTE COCK.
APPLICATION FILED OBT. 30.1919.
Patented Aug. 24, 1920.
1N VEN TOR.
BY W fM MJW ATTORNEY;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. DECKER, 0F ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO EDWARD A. KERN AND ONE-THIRD TO GEORGE A. FRIEDRICKS, BOTH OF ERIE, PENNSYL- VANIA.
STOP AND WASTE COCK.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 24, 1920.
Application filed October 30, 1919. Serial No. 334,510.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. DECKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented; certain new and useful Improvements in Stop and Waste Cocks; and I do herebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in waste cocks, and has for its object the construction of a cock adapted to operate as an ordinary shut-off cook, or as a combined shut-off and waste-cock, as the user may desire.
My improvement consists substantially in providing a shut-off cock wtih a manually operating waste opening, which may be opened or closed as the user may desire;
and when closed the cock operates as a shutoff cock in the usual manner.
The features of my invention are hereinafter fully set forth and described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1, is a side view in elevation of a shut-off cock embodying my invention.
Fig. 2, is a vertical central section of the same.
Fig. 3, is a sectional view of a portion of the same on the line 0aw in 'Fig. 2.
In these drawings A indicates the body of the shut-off cock; B B the inlet and outlet of the same; C the fluid passage; and D the screw operated valve thereof; these parts being of the usual and ordinary construction.
In the body Aof the cock I make a waste opening E provided with a thumb screw F, the lower end f of which is adapted to contact with a seat 6 in said waste opening, and be screwed down upon it so as to close the waste opening. Across the waste opening E above the seat 0 I make a transverse screw threaded opening G which is provided with a screw H adapted to close the same at one side of the waste opening E; the screw H being adapted to be used to close either side of the opening G, as it may be desired to have a right or left waste discharge.
The operation of my invention is so obvious from the foregoing description that further explanation thereof is deemed unnecessary.
Having thus described my invention so as to enable others to construct and utilize the same, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination in a stop and waste-cock, including a housing having a "alve-seat opening therein, and a valve adapted to seat thereon, said housing having an axially inclinedvent-opening therein, and discharge opening at right angles to said vent opening, an internal valve-seat shoulder in said ventopening below said discharge opening, and a screw threaded plug adapted to seat on said valve-seat opening, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
GEORGE W. DECKER.
