Description
E. H. CRUSH.
GA-S PRODUCER-w APPLICATION FILED 0120.29.1919.
Patented Aug. 10, 1920.-
names Horn onJJsH; se en j Gas-replicatin To all whom it may concern i Be it known that I, ERNEST HornCnUsH,
a subjectof the King of Great Britain, resid ing in Blckley, England, have inventedcer tain new and useful Improvements in and,
Relating to Gas-Producers, of whichthe fol-. lowing is a specification.
There is a type ofgas producer in which the producer shaft consists of an annular water chamber connected at, top by shorti water tubes with a second annular chamber, a
the whole being inclosed in a casing from which theproducer gas is withdrawn. In
such a construction the producer gas passesinto the casing between the said connecting '1 tubes, thus imparting much of its sensible 5 heat to the water circulatingfthrough the tubes from one annular chamber to the other.
The upper chambers being provided with the, usual appurtenances of a steam boiler, the
plant becomes a combined gas and steam generator in which overheating ofthe walls of the producer is avoided and the 'gas is partially cooled before it leaves the plant. 7
By my invention I am enabled to construct an improved producer of the type set forth i wherein the main difiiculty usual in such type, namely; the collection of dust between the water tubes and the consequent necessity for frequent cleaning, is largely overcome.
This object is attained by arranging the usual constructions, but less dust is carried it away in the gases which, under influence of the bafiies, undergoes sharp changes of di rection of travel and thereby to deposit the dust which is collected in the casing. The
spaces between the sets'of tubes also facilitate poking of the fuel in theproducer shaft by means of of the caslng.
In the accompanying drawings Figurel is a vertical section and Fig. 2 a plan, half in section, of a producer constructed according to the invention;
The lower drum A constitutes the shaft V Specification of Letters Patent,
adopted a i 7 Suitable cleaning'doors, (notshown) are pokers inserted through the top.
mannenfthe fuel? ,withm ts annulus being supported 1 grate of any known suitable form. The gas with refractory (material in the form of firechamberzF is a light steelcasing K lined clay or'similar lheatresisting blocks L. It

' The annular water chamber A extends somewhat below the gas'cha'mber and is here like number of poke-holes N, O,P, Q, in the crown ofthe gas chamber F. 1
The inclinedtubesG which connectfthe temperature between theupper'd'rum H and proyided with "poke holes'ByC, D,E, on i rad11 alternating with those 'onlwhich are a upperdrum Handtheannular water chain ber A, are so arranged that gaps R, S, T, U,
are formed ins thelotherwise complete ring, those gaps whlch farenearer the off-take L being" narrower than the "others. Thus the tubes are in setsand each set'is backed by abafile plate G, so that thegases from the producer can pass only through the said gaps. The latter are respectively in radial, v re'gisterwith the poke'holes'N, O,P, Q. a
The upper drum H has an opening WV,
vcoaxial with the annular waterchamber', v s for feeding fuel to the producer through a v vbell and cover delivery box or hopper, which is oifset from the axis to afford the necessary I clearance for a v'erticalshaft carrying mes chanical pokers, as shown in dotted lines in Fig,- 1, when such, an arrangement, is
provided at the lower part J of the, gas "chamber,",fo'r removal of dust.
said invention an'dthebest means I know 'of carryingthe same into practical e'ffect,I
claim k v -7 Having thus described'the nature of the 10 c a l; Asgas producer comprisinga producer shaft, an annularwater chambersurrounding the shaft, a second annular, water chamber .placedabov'e the'shafha casing surround ingboth annular chambers,'said casing pro vldlng gas chamber, anoflitake for pr'o ducerlg as at one sideof the upper part ofthe gas chamber,.upwardly and inwardly width as the set with which it is in adj acency, the top of said casing being formed with poke holes, said pokeholes being in registry with the spaces between the several sets of tubes.
2. -A'gasproducer comprising a producer 1 shaft, an annular water chamber surround ingthe shaft,a second annular chamber positioned above the shaft, a casing surround. mg the second annular chamber and the upper part of the lower annular chamber to constitute a gas chamber, an off-take for producer gas at one side of the upper part of said gas chamber, upwardly and inwardly in sets spaced apart, said sets of tubes which are near the gas off-take being closer together than the sets of tubes farther removed from said off-take, a baflle plate behind each set of tubes, each bafile plate beingof a width co-extensive with the set to which it is adjacent, poke'holesformed in the upper part of said casing, said poke holes being in registry with the spaces between thesetsof tubes, and radially arrangedpoke holes in the lower part of the first-named annular water chamber.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
