Description
LISQZEBROCK, JR. PEN AND PENCIL ATTACHMENT. APPLICATION FILED NOV. 7. 1919 193%,245. Patented June 15, 1920.
UNITED. StAWENT ore ICE;
. .LOUIS s. znBnocK, an, OFHASTINGS'ANEW YORK.
" mammalian ATm'cHMEw" I To all 207mm it m'ai concern:
Be 1t known that I, LOUIS S. ZEBRooK,
Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Hastings, in the county of estchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pen and Pencil Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention reiates to new and useful improvements in a pen or pencil attachment and has for its principal object the provision of a device which may be attached to a pen or pencil and receive a finger or thumb of the hand of the user whereby the pen or pencil may be guided for writing properly.
Another object of the invention resides in the construction of a device which is ad justable so as to be adapted for pens or pencils of different diameters.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of means for folding the attachment so that the pen or pencil, with the attachment in position, may be inserted in the pocket of the user.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists in the novel details of construct-ion and arrangement of parts which will be more clearly understood from the following specification and drawings in which Figure 1 is perspective showing a pen with my attachment in position.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation, and
Fig. 3 is a top plan.
In the drawings the numerall indicates a pen holder with my attachment in position ready for use. The attachment comprises a flexible metal strip 2 which is adapted to be bent so as to form the cylindrical portion As shown, more particularly in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the end 4 of the cylindrical portion will normally engage the top face of the plate The pen 1, or pencil, will be placed through the cylindrical portion 3, as more particularly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, and the diameter of the cylindrical portion 3 may be reduced by pressure so as to slide the end 4 over the face of the plate 2. By this arrangement the cylindrical portion may be adjusted to adapt itself to pens or pencils of various diameters.
A plate 5 is hingedly connected to the plate 2 at 6 and the end of the plate 5 is h Specification of Letters'Patent'. PatentedJfifl15figa Application filed-Noyember 7, 191a s r al-fa .336,253.: '1 If I curved upwardlyas indicated at fto form the end S which normally overlies the plate curved portion 7 extends at anangle so as to properly receive the finger of the user n a manner to be later described. As is illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings the plate 5 1s adapted to be swung upon the hinge 6 so that the curved portion 7 will overlie the top of the cylindrical portion 3 and the end 8 will engage the cylindrical portion so as to hold the parts in their adjusted or folded position.
From the above detailed description it is thought that the manner of using my device will be clearly understood as well as the advantages thereof. As previously stated the pen or pencil is adapted to pass through the cylindrical portion 3 and said cylindrical portion may be adjusted to adapt itself to pensv or pencils of various dioverlying end 8 will securely hold the attachment upon the finger. By this arrangement the pen or pencil is supported upon the finger and the pen or pencil may be 1 guided for writing properly. \Vhen using my attachment the finger will be held straight so as to prevent writers cramp and will allow a free hand movement in writing. My attachment also makes it possible for a person who has lost a finger or a number of fingers to write properly. If all four of the fingers have been lost the attaclfment may be applied to the thumb. The plate 5 is of flexible material, so as to be properly curved, and may be flexed or adjusted to adapt itself to the different sized fingers of the user. hen not in use the plate 5 may be swung upon the hinge 6 so that the curved portion 7 overlies the cylindricalv and arrangement and combination of parts, materials, dimensions, etc., as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the appIended claims.
' aving thus fully described my lnvention, what I claim as-new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v 1. A pen or penc l attachment compris ing a plate having one edge curved to form a cylindrical portion, the end of the cylindrical, portion engaging the upper surface of the plate, and a second plate hingedlyconnected to the first'mentioned' plate,-the edge of said second mentioned plate being curved upwardly and'inwardly.
2. A en and pencil attachmehtcoifipiis ing -a-pair of plates',- one of said plates curved adjacent one edge so as to form a cylindrical portion the other edge being provided with a huge section,- the second plate hingedly connected to the hinge sec-. tion and having its other edge curved upwardly and inwardly.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signaturein presence of two Witnesses.
