Description
H. HENRI-CH. Dies for Forming Basils of Lockets.
No. 133,986. Patented Dec 17,1872.
/ jay 7 into cup shape.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HEINRICH HENRIOH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.,. ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND HENRY HENZE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN DIES FOR FORMING BASILS OF LOCKETS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,986, dated December 17, 1872.
To an whom it'may concern:
Be it known that I, HEINRICH HENRIcn, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Die for Forming Locket, Stud, and Button 'Basils, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a side view of the movable die and a section of the stationary die for cutting out the blank, the plate being shown in place. Fig. 2 represents the blank cut out. Fig. 8 is a side view of the movable die and a section of the stationary die for bringing the blank Figs. 4 and 5 are sections, and a top or plan view, of the blank brought into cup shape. Fig. 6 is a top view of the lower or stationary die for cutting out the bottom of the cup-shaped blank and for forming the basil.
the stationary die for cutting out the bottom of the cupshaped blank. .Fig. 8 is a sectional view of the cup-shaped blank with its bottom out out. Fig. 9 is a section of the movable and stationary dies for forming the basil. Figs. 10 and 11 are a top and and a sectional view of the formed basil.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved die for forming locket, stud, and button basils with inwardly-inclined sides andinwardly-projectin gbase-flange, and which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, and effective in operation, enabling the basil to be formed quickly and accurately and in one piece; and it consists in-a die, in the face of which is formed a groove having its inner side vertical and its outer side inclined, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents the plate of gold or other metal out of which the basil is to be formed. B is the lower or stationary die having a hole formed through it, over which the plate A is placed to be out by the descent of the movable die 0. The blank D, thus out out, is placed in the stationary die E, which is formed with a rounded shoulder around the hole formed I through it. As the movable die F descends Fig. 7 is a side view of the movable die and a section of the form of a short tube having an inwardly projecting flange around its lower end. J is the die by which the basil is formed. The face of the die J is made of such a size as to fit into the shoulder h formed around and concentric with the shoulder k In the face of the die J is formed a groove, K, the inner side of which is vertical and the outer side inclined. The groove K is concentric with theface of the die J and with the shoulders h k of the die H. The groove K is so arranged that the lower edge of its outer or inclined side may coincide withthe edge of the shoul-v der h The lower edge of the inner or vertical side should be a little inside of the edge of the hole through the die H.
The blank L formed by the die I is placed in the shoulder h of the die H. As the die J descends the lower part of the inclined side of the groove K strikes upon the upper edge of the blank L and forces it inward until the outer part of the die J strikes the shoulder h This operation completes the formation of the basil M, and leaves it in the form shown in Figs. 10 and 11.
The dies, blanks, and basil are shown in the drawing as being oval in form, but they may be made round with the same facility, and may be of any desired size.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- A die, J, in the face of which, and concentrio therewith, is formed a groove, K, having its inner side vertical and its outer side inclined, substantially ashereiu shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
' HEINRICH HEN RICH.
