To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, THEODORE H. Mon- R15 and FRANK T. GRUBBE, citizensof the United States, residing at Gary, in the county of Lake and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boudoir-Chairs, of which the following is a specification.

The object of the invention is to provide a chair for boudoir use in connection with a dressing table and mirror and having a mirror feature for the purpose of giving a reflected view of the back of the head in dressing the hair and the like, the mirror attachment being so related with the other elements of the chair as to provide for the compact folding of the same into an inconspicuous position so as to render the chair readily portable while presenting a neat and attractive appearance, and to this end the invention consists in a construction, combination and relation of parts hereinafter specifically set forth, it being understood however that changes in form, proportion and details may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the principles involved.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of a chair having a mirror attachment and constructed in accordance with one embodiment of the invention, the parts being shown folded.

Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same with the mirror extended in position for use.

Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional View of the chair.

Fig. 4 is a rear View of the same.

Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view on the plane indicated by the line 5-5 of Fig. 3, the mirror being shown folded.

In connection with a general chair c011- struction of any approved or preferred form embodying a seat 10 and supporting legs 11 suitably braced by rounds 12 or the equivalent thereof, is a back 13 which is constructed to form a housing for a mirror preferably of the folding type and consisting of the main leaf or member 14; and the folding Specification of Letters Patent.

or side leaves 15, the latter being hinged as at 16 to the former and adapted to fold parallel therewith so that the reflective sur faces are concealed. The chair back is con structed at its sides to form guides 17 for the reception of the folded mirror, the main, central or intermediate member 14 of which is provided with an extension 18 forming a slide which remains engaged with the guides in both the folded and extended or adjusted positions of the mirror. Said slide may be provided as at 19 with stops to limit the upward movement thereof and various means may be employed for extending the mirror such as the rack 20 connected with the lower edge of the slide by means of a joint 21, and engaged by a pinion 22 carried by a shaft 23 having a removable crank 24:, said shaft being mounted in suitable bearings 25, for example, on the rear portion of the frame work of the chair.

When the mirror is depressed or in its normal position it is housed within the double back of the chair structure so as to be concealed, the reflective surfaces being duly protected against contact with adjacent objects likely to scratch or break the same, and when extended the side leaves may be swung to any desired angular positions to afford the operator the desired view in dressing the hair or arranging the clothing, etc.

Having described the invention what is claimed is A chair having its back in the form of a housing, a foldable mirror normally received in the housing, guides in the housing for the mirror, stops carried by the mirror for limiting the movement thereof in both directions through the housing, a rack depend ing from the mirror frame through the housing, a pinion on the bottom of the chair engaging with the rack, a shaft for the pinion journaled in bearings, and a removable handle for engaging with the shaft.
