Description
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 2,1920.
E.. ERl'CKSON.
SACK HOLDER.
Patented Apr. 27, 1920.
INVENTOF? ERICK ERICKSON BY HIS ATTORNEY ERICK ERICKSON, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
SACK-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
, Patented Apr. 27, 1920.
Application filed February 2, 1920. Serial No. 355,652.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERICK ERIOKSON, a subject of the King of Sweden residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Ifennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sack- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to sack holders and the object is to provide a simple yet efficient adjustable device for the purpose of holding sacks in open position while being filled. The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device complete.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the upper portion of the device as seen from the left in F ig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a top view of Fig. 2 slig tly modified.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged top view of the device as seen in Fig. 1 and showing a sack held in position to be filled.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail sectional view on the line 5-5 in Fig. 4.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, 6 designates a platform to which is fixed a standard 7 having a series of notches 8 in one side thereof. Slidably mounted on said standard is a shelf 9 to the underside of which is pivotally secured a dog 10 adapted to engage the notches 8 at any height desired. Pivotally secured to the top of 'the shelf 9 is a bell-crank-lever 11, having hingedly connected at one end thereof a notch engaging piece or handle 12 which is adapted to engage any one of a series of notches 13 in a segmental edge of the shelf 9, and which is pivotally connected at its other end to one end of a segmental hoop 14 to the outer side of which are secured a number of sack engaging teeth 15 adapted to support a sack 16. The segmental hoop 14 may be in one piece pivotally secured at its ends, as shown in Fig. 3, orv it may consist of several hingedly connected sections tion.
When a sack is to be filled the shelf 9 is first adjusted to the height desired. The
open end of the sack 16 is then stretched over the pegs or hooks 15. Further stretching of the sack as'well as adjusting the size of the used portion of the hoop is accomplished by lifting the handle 12 to the horizontal position, then swinging the bellcrank-lever until the proper adjustment is made and then dropping the handle into the notch 13 adjacent such position.
Having now therefore fully shown and described my invention what I claim to be new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the class described consisting of a suitably supported standard, a shelf adjustably secured to said standard, said shelf having notches in a segmental portion thereof, a bell crank lever pivotally mounted on said shelf, a flexible band having hooks thereon secured at one end to said shelf and secured at the other end to one end of said bell crank lever, a handle secured to the opposite end of said bell crank lever, said handle being adapted to engage said notches.
2. A device of the class described consisting of a suitably supported standard, a shelf adjustably supported on said standard, a sack holding flexible band having hooks thereon secured at one end to said shelf, a lever arm pivotally mounted at one end to said shelf and pivotally connected at the other end to the opposite end of said flexible band, means for securing said lever arm in various positions, a horizontal bracket secured to and extending out from said shelf, said bracket being adapted to support said flexible band.
In testimony whereof I afiix m si nature.
ERICK ER cKso
