OIL-FEEDING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented lIitl'. 30, 1920.
Application filed June 19, 1919. Serial No. 305,354.
To all "whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AN \NILHEm-I FIN- s'rnn, a citizen-oi? Poland, residing at 359 Park street, Holyoke, county of Hampden,
and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Feeding Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
' This invention has for visionot' means for feeding oil to a burner or furnace and commingling steam, gases or air under pressure so as to produce a vapor ot' inflammable nature.
This object is attained by the novel conl-5 struction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, iorn'iing a material part of this disclosure, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevational view show- 0 ing an oil feeding apparatus made in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the center of the same.
Fig. 3 is an end view looking from the handle.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken through the parts in detail and indicating their relative. position.
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 5-5 ofFig. 2, and i Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 2.
Referring toithe drawings in detail, the numeral 10 indicates a cylindrical metallic casing closed at its outer end 11, except for a screw-threaded central opening 12, while its opposite open end contains a screw thread 13, of larger diameter, the casing terminating in an octagonal flange 14.
Formed with one side of the casing 10 is an extension 15, containing an inlet opening 16. the extension having a screw-thread 17 on its exterior by which it may be connected with a supply source.
Engaged in the-opening 12, is a packing nut 18. having an octagon head 19 bored to receive a packing 20, the opening being screw-threaded at its upper end to receive a gland 21, terminating in a hexagon head 50 22. and suited to receive the valve stem 23,
-having a threaded portion 24, engageable with the screw-threads in the nut 18 and actuable by a hand wheel 25, secured to the reduced upper stem 26, by the nut 27, while its object the pro-' on the lower end of the valve stem 23 is a conical valve 28.
Another cylindrical casing 30 is provided with a flange 31, formed octagonally, corresponding to the flange 14, the same containing internal threads 32, while the other end of the body 10 has external threads 33, suited to be received in the threads 34 formed in the large end 35, of a diffuser cap 36.
A hollow plug having screw threads, respectively 37 and 38, formed upon each side of an octagonal extension 39, is adapted to engage with screw threads 13 and 32, holding the bodies 10 and 30 in rigid engagement, while the reduced end 40, of the hollow plug extends into the body 30, and terminates in a screw-threaded extension 41, to which is fitted a disk 42, containing a plurality of perforations 43, adjacent to which is a tube 44, also fitted to the thread 41, the same extending outward, coincident with I the outer end of the diffusercap 36.
Extendingkout from the body 30, is a hollow extension 45, containing a central opening 46, having screw-threads 47 upon 1ts exterior engageable with a supply sourceby which steam, compressed air, or the like may be entered into the body 30, which upon striking the hollow plug 40, is diverted and caused to pass'out through the perforations 43, Where it is commingled with the oil discharged from the end of the tube 44.
In operation, the oil and air stem inlets, respectively 15 and 45, havin been properly connected with sources 0% supply, the oil entered under pressure, is caused to pass through the central passage 48 in the plug 40, at the upper end of'which is a valve seat 49. controlled by the valve'28, and operated by the hand wheel 29 so as to permit a proper amount of oil to enter and pass through the diffuser, where it is mingled with steam entering through the small openings 43, forming aburning mixture in condition to be directed into a furnace or burner as desired.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,'is-- A means for regulating the supply of oil and steam to burners comprising a sectional body, a threaded plug uniting the sections of said body, a threaded steam inlet at one end and a threaded oilinlet' at the other, side of said plug, a reduced extension on said plug leading into one of said body sections, a perforated disk on saidextension, a diffuser on said extension adjacent to said disk, a valve seat at the end of said plug opposite to said extension, a conical valve adapted to engage sald seat, a stem over said valve, an elongated packing nut 'engaging' a serew'thread on said stem, a gland 10 in said nut and a hand wheel on said stem, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have aliixed my signature.
, JAN WILHELM FINSTER.
