To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALFRED N. CLoUoH, a citizen of the United States, and resident of San Jose, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cot-Canopies, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a collapsible canopy top adapted to be removably attached to cots of suitable construction, the principal object of my invention being to provide a top that can be quickly and easily set up and quickly and easily removed, light, economical to manufacture, and that can be formed into a package of small compass.

lVith these and other objects in view my invention consists in the novel and useful provision, formation, combination, and relative arrangement and interrelation and association of parts, members and features, all as hereinafter described, shown in the drawings and finally set forth in the claims.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cot having my improved canopy top in position thereon.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates a suitable cot upon which a canvas 2 is supported by means of a pair of folding end constructions connected by ridge-pole 3 in a manner such as hereinafter described. In the present instance each of the said folding end constructions is made up in the following manner:

tached thereto by hinges 8, hinges 8 being formed with. an extension 9 adapted to engage the frame of cot 1 when said arm 7 is in the position shown in Fig. 7, the arm being held in the said position by brace 10 which is jointed at 11. The rear corner member 4 is preferably made shorter than member 4 and has its lower end equipped in the same manner, the several parts bearing similar numerals followed by the letter a. The upper ends of members 4t and 1P are connected by member 12, said member 12 being attached to member A by a hinge l3 formed with arms 1 f so that when the members are folded member at will swing around the end of member 12 into the position shown in Fig. 2.

It is desirable that the upper end of member 41* be beveled as shown at 15 so as to afford a solid bearing for member 12. Member 12 is attached to the upper end of member 1 by a hinge 16, as shown, and also connected thereto by a brace 17 having a joint at 18. Attached to hinge 16 is also a forwardly projecting member 19 which is also connected to member 4; by a brace as 20 having a joint 21.

On the inner side and near the outer end of member 19 is formed a socket as 22 adapted to engage a pin 23 in ridge-pole 3, the saidridge-pole 8 having a clamp 24 pivotally mounted near the end thereof as at 25 and having its free end bent downwardly as at 26 to engage member 19 and securely lock the two members together. At suitable positions on the several members are placed pins as 27 to engage grommets 28 in canvas 2.

In assembling this canopy it is only necessary to unfold each end construction and place it in position, making the several parts rigid by straightening the braces and locking the construction to the cot by projections 9 and 9 on hinges 8 and 8 respectively. The ridge-pole 3 is now placed in position and fastened as described and the canvas 2 thrown over the framework and fastened on pins 27. The side and rear curtains may be thrown back or fastened to the ground as by pegs 29. The front curtain may be positioned as shown at 30 by means of ropes as 31 attached to suitable objects not shown, or it may be dropped to the ground as indicated in dotted lines at 32.

It is pointed out that in this construction the canopy is rigidly supported from the cot itself and can be readily set up or removed by a single individual. In addition to the canvas the whole construction is embodied in three separate parts, namely, the ridgepole 3 which has a joint in the center as at 33, which permits its being folded into substantially the same length as the members 4, and the two end constructions, each of which folds up as shown in Fig. 2. There are no bolts, nuts, screws or other small parts to be removed at any time, consequently no parts can be misplaced or lost.

It is understood, of course, that various changes and rearrangements of parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
