Description
UNITED snares PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. PRIEST, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, ASSIGNOR TO E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS AND COMPANY, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING LINOLEUM AND PRODUCT THEREOF.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. PRIEST, of Wilmington, in the county of New Castle, and in the State of Delaware, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement-in Processes for Producing Linoleum and Product Thereof, and dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
' My invention relates to a new linoleum article and a process of making the same.
More particularly the object of my invention is to provide a process of producing the above article containing an oxidized oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds combined in an advantageous manner.
Further objects of my invention will appear from a detailed description thereof contained hereinafter.
I have found that when a previously oxidized oil is ground together in any suitable machine, as for example a machine containing friction rolls, with a polymerized prod-, not of the coumarone or indene group of compoundsat a temperature of 100 0. or below a material is obtained which has different characteristics as to its consistency, combining qualities, solubility, etc., which make it more useful as a cement than in the case where the polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds is added to the oil before or while heating or oxidizing the same.
While my invention is capable of being carried out in manydifierent ways, I shall de scribe only one example thereof hereinafter.
In order to carry out my process I may oxidize two parts of linseed oil in any suit able manner as for example by the application of heat and. air so as to produce a jelly-like material. The material thus obtained is allowed to cool and I then mix therewith one part of a polymerized product of the coumarone or'indene group of compounds and grind the same together at a temperature of 100 0. or below thus producing a composition which is elastic, adhesive, coherent and light in color.
This composition may be used for lino- Specification of Letters Patent.

leum cement by mixing with suitable proportions of pigment, ground cork or woodmeal, as for example Linseed oil courmarone resin comand applying to a fabric by means of pres-- sure. The material may also be used for cementing materials of other kinds together and'on fabrics of all kinds.
While I have described my invention above in detail, I wish it to be understood that many changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the same.
What I claim is:
1. The'process which comprises mixing together anoxidized oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of. compounds at a temperature not above 100 0., and so applying the mixture to a fabric layer as to cause it to adhere thereto.
2. The process which comprises mixing together an oxidized oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature not above 100 0., and so applying the mixture together with ground cork to a fabric layer as to cause it to adhere thereto.
3. The process which comprises mixing together oxidized linseed oil and a polymer-3 ized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature not above 100 0., and so applying the mixture to a fabric layer as to cause it to adhere thereto.
4. The process which comprises mixing together oxidized linseed oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature not above 100 0., and so applying the mixture together with ground cork to a fabric layer as to cause it to. adhere thereto.
5. An article of manufacture comprising an oxidized oil mixed with a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds, and a fabric layer carrying the same.
6. An article of manufacture comprising therewith, and a fabric layer carrying the 10 oxidized linseed oil mixed with a polymersame. ized product of the coumarone or indene In testimony that I claim the foregoing I group of compounds, and a fabric layer have hereunto set my hand. cal-1' *ing the same. 1
7. An article of-manui 'acture comprising G PRIEST oxidized linseed oil mixed with a polymer- W'itnesses: ized product of the coumarone-(or indene P. E. STRICKLAND, group of compounds and ground cork mixed 0. ELMER HoURY.
