LLOYD ARNOLD, OF GALVESTON, TEXAS.
I'MPRQVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,349, dated November 26, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LLoYn ARNOLD, of Galveston, in the county of Galveston and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bale-Tie, of which the following is a specification My invention is an improvement in the class of cotton-bale ties in which the free end of the band is doubled and passed over a lateral arm or tongue of the tie; and it consists in combining a holdingbar with said arm or tongue, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a top view of the tie, showing it as applied and the bale expanded. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view.
A represents the tie. B is the band. One end of the band is made fast to the tie by means of the opening 0, with that end doubled,
so that it will be as shown at D when the bale expands. The tie is laid upon the bale wrong side up, and the other end of the band is brought around the bale and looped around the tongue H, through the opening E. When the bale expands the tie will revolve, and the band and the tie will present the appearance shown in the drawing. The end of the band will, by means of the openings E and F, be
same.
of the loop and yet allows it to be readily debrought under the bar G, which completes the operation. A projection, I, on the tongue H, serves to prevent the loop slipping oif the The tongue G serves to confine the end tached. p
I am aware it is not new to construct a baletie with a lateral arm over which to pass the loop formed at the free end of the band; also, that a holding-bar or short arm has been employed to keep a loop from slipping or becoming loosened; but I believe I am the first to combine these devices and thereby attain the desired result, viz.,.facility of attachment and detachment of the loop and security of the fastening when the parts are in their normal position.
I accordingly claim- As a new article of manufacture, the baletie A, provided with the ordinary slot E, and
with the tongue or bar H having the projection I, and the shorter loop-holding tongue G,
as specified.
LLOYD ARNOLD.
