Definitions
- This invention relates to an improved construction of building blocks used for forming buildings and other similar structures and particularly in connection with the construction of the walls of the building and the principal object of the invention is to provide a wall formed of a plurality of blocks connected to provide wall sections in spaced relation longitudinally of the wall and to further provide improved means for connecting the blocks forming the wall sec tions thus providing a substantially solid wall having air spaces therein.
- Another object of the invention is to so construct the blocks that in one form, the blocks at the corner of a wall may be interlocked thus providing a rigid corner structure.

Application filed March 9, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR O. KNUDsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minot, in the county of Nerd and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cement Blocks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved construction of building blocks used for forming buildings and other similar structures and particularly in connection with the construction of the walls of the building and the principal object of the invention is to provide a wall formed of a plurality of blocks connected to provide wall sections in spaced relation longitudinally of the wall and to further provide improved means for connecting the blocks forming the wall sec tions thus providing a substantially solid wall having air spaces therein.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the blocks that in one form, the blocks at the corner of a wall may be interlocked thus providing a rigid corner structure.
This improved construction has been shown in connection with a building for forming the walls thereof but it is to be understood that it can be used in other construction for forming walls of different types of buildings and further for forming Walls such as the retaining walls or sea walls.

In the accompanying drawings is illustrated the preferred form of the invention and which shows the construction of wall sections to be used at the corner of a building where the two walls meet. The outer section 27 of one wall will be cut to provide an inclined shoulder 28 pitched at an incline toward the outer face of the section and the outer section 29 of the second wall will be cut to provide an abutment shoulder 30 fitting upon the inclined shoulder 28 when the two corner blocks are put in place with the adjoining walls extending at right angles to each other. the inner face of this wall. section 29 is formed between the spacing strip 32 and the free end of this wall section and when the two sections 27 and 29 are put together, this locking rib 31 will be positioned between the strip 32 of the section 29 and the strip 33 The intermediate wall section 3% for the first wall is provided with an abutment shoulder 35 fitting upon the upper end of the rib 31 and is provided with a rib 36 positioned intermediate the spacing strip 37, and the free end of the intermediate section. After this intermediate wall section is put in place the intermediate wall section of the second wall is put in place and engages the intermediate wall section of the first wall. This intermediate section for the second wall is similar in construction to the wall section 29 and therefore has not been 7 illustrated in detail. It will be provided with a shoulder similar to the shoulder 30 and with a locking rib similar to the locking rib 31 and a spacing strip similar to the strip 32. The inner section of the first wall will be similar to the block forming the intermediate section as shown in Fig. 5 with the exception of the fact that the spacing strip 37 will be omitted. The abutment shoulder which corresponds to the shoulder 8- 35 will engage the upper end of the locking rib of the intermediate section of the second wall and this inner .wall section will be positioned between the spacing ribs of the intermediate wall sections of the second wall and the spacing rib 37 The block forming the inner section of the second wall is shown in Fig. 6 and indicated by the numeral 38 and is provided with an abutment shoulder 39 which engages the upper end of the looking rib of the inner section of the first wall. It will thus be seen that when these wall sections are in place, they will be interlocked and form a solid structure. It should be noted that the edge portions of these blocks have been provided with grooves d0 so that cement used for setting the blocks may be moved into the grooves thus forming a tight joint. It is of course understood that eX- cepting at the corner sections, the remainder of the walls will be constructed similar to the structure shown in Fig. 1. p
I have thus provided an improved wall structure formed of molded cement blocks which will form a wall very strong and 110 durable and further form a wall having air chambers therein.
What is claimed is A Wall structure comprising side portions meeting at an angle and' formed of inner, outer and intermediate sections, the end portions of the outer sections being cut to provide interlocking abutment shoulders and one of the outer sections being provided upon its inner face with a locking rib having an abutment shoulder at its upper end sloping toward the body of the section, the intermediate sections being provided upon their inner faces With locking ribs having abutment shoulders on their upper ends, the first intermediate section being provided at its end With an abutment shoulder for engaging the abutment shoulder of the rib ofthe outer section, and the second intermediate section being provided at its end with an abutment shoulder for engaging the upper end of the rib of the first intermediate section, one inner section being provided With a locking rib upon its inner face provided With an abutment shoulder at its upper end and having its end portion provided With an abutment shoulder engaging the locking rib of the second intermediate section, and the second inner section having its end portion out to provide an abutment shoulder engaging the locking rib of the first inner section.
