HIRAM a. GRAY, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
JAR-HOLD R.
R. GRAY, a
This invention relates to improvements injar holders.
The primary objectis to provide a ar holder including a novel means for holding the jaws and handles in such a position that extremely quick operation is rendered possible.
With the above and other-objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully set forth in the specification and claim. I attain these objects by constructing the device as clearly illustrated in the accom panying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the jar holder and cap-remover in operation; and
I ig. 2 is vertical longitudinalsectional view of the jar holder. r r
The jar holder broadly comprises base formed of any suitable material and of any preferred shape, a post rising from the base and preferably but not necessarily formed integral therewith, jaws having operating pivotally mounted on said postand means for retaining the jaws and handles in position-for quick operation. J
In detail as illustr'rted, I- employ abase l which may be formed of wood or metal,
said base bemg substantially elliptical in conformation and provided adjacent one end with a post 2 which is formed integral with the base as shown. The post is provided with a vertical bolt hole which alines with a bolt hole of the same diameter in the base. I
Application filed September 25, 1919.
being of such a pair of jar engaging handles and being Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb. 24, 1920.
Serial No. 326,248.
A pair of jar engaging jaws 3 are provlded, said aws havmg at one end a pair of overlapping apertured ears 4 through which is passed .a bolt 5, said bolt being of such a length that it will. pass through the bolt holes in the post and base, the bolt being adapted to receive a nut on its lower end, said nut being countersunk in the recess formed around the bolt hole in the. base.
A pair of handles 6 is formed on the other end of the jaws and are movable toward and away from each other to contract the jaws around the jar or to release the jar.
In order that the handles and jaws may be at all times in position for quick operation, or the like is provided, said block being provided with a notch 8 in its upper edge for the reception of the handles 6, said notch V a width as to hold the handles close enough together to permit a person to easily grasp them in one hand.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood with out requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing fromthe principle or sacrificing any of the advan-1 outer faces of said handles to restrict the outward movement thereof and hold them in position for quick operation.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
