State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shade-Roller and Curtain-Pole Brackets, of which the following is a specification.

The invention seeks to provide, as its principal object, a shade roller and curtain pole support which may be attached to window frames without the means of screws.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is" adjustable to permit its attachment to diiferent widths of stile of window frames, the bracket being designed'for attachment to the frame by" mounting on the V stile of the slot 3, and the tongue 5 is formed thereof.

A still furtherobject is to provide an adjustable shade roller support to permit the use of the invention with various widths of A still further object is the provision of a device of this character wherein the attachment to the window frame is effected by a clamping operation, the device being so designed and arranged as to efi'ect the clamping operation in a' novel manner.

' A' still further object seeks the provision of a bracket of this character which is made of sheet metal, so that it may be manufactured by a stamping operation and, therefore. made at small cost.

Still further and other ob ects will appear as the invention is set forth in detail in the following description. To the exact construction in which it is shown and described, the invention is not to be restricted. Theright is reserved to makef such changes or alterations as the actual reduction to practice may demand, in so far as such changes or alterations are comprehended in spirit by the annexed claims.

Referring to the drawings, the bracket is shown as comprising the body member 1 which is made preferably of sheet metal, and is of an L-shaped formation, the leg 2 of which is designed to lie horizontally when the bracket is in use. provided with a longitudinal slot 3 to permit the attachment to the leg of the shade roller support 4, the shade roller support being in the form of an angle plate, one leg of which is designed to receive either the round or'fiatted stud of a shade roller, depending on which side of the window the bracket is mounted. The other leg of the shade roller support 4 is provided with a tongue 5 whose width is equal to the width leg of the shade roller bracket lies against the front face of the leg 2, the tongue 5 to permit this passing through the slot 3. To hold the shade roller bracket firmly against the front face of the leg 2. there is provided a hill 7 which is formed integral with the shade roller bracket and bent into the form of a book which hooks over the upper edge of the leg 2. The shade roller bracket is thus held firmlv in place on the leg 2. but maybe adj sted longitudinally therealong by raisin the shade roller bracket to disenga e the bill. after which the shade roller bracket may be moved to a position to bring the transverse piece 6 where it may be withdrawn throu h the slot 3 to completely disengage the shade roller bracket from the leg 2 or to permit its being shifted along the le the re'e'ngaging of the bill after such shifting, securing the shade roller bracket in such adi sted position.

In addition to the shade roller support 4, there is provided a curtain pole bracket 8, made preferahlv of wire bent to the proper conformation to sup ort a curtain pole and to be hooked over the upper edge of the leg 2 of the bodv of the bracket.

The leg near its upper edge and at the free end is provided with an inturned narrow flange 9 which acts as an abutment flange to prevent the curtain pole support accidentally sliding off from its position on top ofthe leg 2. r r

The body portion 1 at that end remote from the leg 2 is made relatively wide as compared with the remaining portion of the body, and this widened portion is made partly circular in shape. This widened portion supports the clamping members 10 and 11, both of which are pivotally secured to the enlarged portion of the body by suitable rivets 12. The clamping memberlO is provided with a fixed jaw 13, while the clamping member 11 carries an ad ustable jaw 14, which is movable along the arm 15 of theclamping member '11. This arm 15 of the clamping member simulates the leg 2 of the body portion 1 in shape, being pro- 'vided with a longitudinal slot 16 similar to the slot 3. The adjustable jaw 14 carries a tongue 17 offset from the jaw to permit its passing through the slot 16 when the body of the aw lies against the rear face of the army 15. The tongue 17 is formed with a transverse portion 18 designed to lie against the front face of the arm 15, and

this transverse portion 18 is formed at either end with an inturned hook member 19, these inturned hook members 19 engaging any one of a series of holes 20 formed longitudinally along the arm 15 both above and below the slot 16. The body portion of the jaw 14 is formed with hooked ends 21, which hook around both the edges of the arm 15.

The clamping members 10 and 11 are formed substantially arcuate in shape and are so disposed with reference to each other that they interlock when the bracket is attached to the vertical stile of a window frame, each clamping member carrying adja'ent its pivoted end, a bill 22 between which and the body portion 1 the other I clamping member engages when the device being effected port1on18 away from the arm 15 to effect the disengagement of the hooked ends 19' is attached as before mentioned.

Theseries of holes 20 are provided for the purpose of adjusting the jaw 14 longi tudinally along the arm 15, this adjustment by drawing the transverse from the holes 20, the hooked ends 21 engaging the edges of the arm 15 loosely enough to permit its withdrawal. The hooked ends 19 having been disengaged in this way, the adjustable jaw 14 may be moved longitudinally along the arm 15 when the hooked ends 19 may be engaged with any other pair of'holes 20 suitable for effecting the desired distance between'the jaws 13 and 14.

In the attaching of the device to a window frame, the adjustable jaw 14 is set in aposibottom and top 'is formed a longitudinal slot and in which tion where its distance from the fixed jaw is approximately equal to the width of the vertical stile Of the Window frame to which the device is to be attached. The clamping members 10 and 11 are then moved on their pivots and this operation results in increasing the distance between the two jaws. Ilhe placing of the jaws thereafter,so their 1nturned ends 23 will bite into the stile on opposite sides will permit the jaws to be clamped on the stile when the body portion 1 is drawn down to a position where the leg of the body portion lies in a horizontal plane.

It is apparent from the construction shown that the jaws are separated or brought together, as the leg 2 of the body member is raised from or brought back to its normal horizontal position, assuming of course, that this statement refers to the clamping members as standing normally in a horizontal position.

From the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the drawings, it is thought that the operation, construction and advantages of the invention are apparent and further description is therefore, omitted.

The invention having been described, what is claimed as new and useful is:

1. Adevice of the kind described comprising a body member having means for supporting a shade roller, a pair of clamping members pivotallv connectedwith the body member, one of the clamping members having a fixed jaw, the other being provided with an arm in which there there is formed further a series of holes both above and below the slot. and an adjustable jaw carried by the said arm. the adjustable jaw having a tongue which-passes through the slot and which is provided with a transverse portion lying against the arm on that face opposite which the jaw lies, the transverse portion having hooked ends for engagement one in any hole of either of the two series of holes. the ends loosely engaging around the top and bottom edges of the arm. 1

2. A device of the kind described comprising a body member havingmeans for supporting a shaderoller, a pair of clamping members pivotally connected with the body member, each clamping member being formed with an arcuate or circular portion at the end attached'to the bod' member, the two arcuate portions of the two clamping members being oppositely disposed so that the two interlock whenthe body portion is in a certain position, the movement of the body portion with respect to the clamping members serving to swing them into or out of interlocking engagement for the purpose specified.

3. A device of the kind described comjaw having hooked prising a body member having means for supporting a shade roller, a pair of clamping members pivotally connected with the body member, each clamping member being formed with an arcuate or circular portion at the end attached to the body member, the two arcuate portions of the two clamping members being oppositely disposed so that the two interlock when the body portion is in a certain position, the movement of the body portion with respect to the clamping members serving to swing them into or out of interlocking engagement, and an adjustable jaw carried by one of the clamping members.
