UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALVA C. THOMAS, OF ROYAL OAK, MICHIGAN.
CURTAIN-FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patented Deo.9,1919.
Application filed February 3, 1919. Serial No. 274,618.
useful Improvement in Curtain-Fixtures, and declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to window shade supports and consists in the improvements hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a window with a curtain adjusted thereto by means of an apparatus embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the holding strips or bars.
Fig. 4: is a portion of the holding strip on one side of the window frame.
Fig. 5 is a portion of the holding strip on the other side of the window frame.
a indicates the window with the uprights a a and the sashes a a therein. Upon the inner surfaces of the uprights a m I secure strips or bars 0 opposite each other, one upon each of said uprights. The bars a are preferably made of sheet metal of U-shape in cross section and having attaching lugs 0 0 at each end. There is a slot 0 extending longitudinally of the bar in the part of said bar or strip which is parallel to and a little distance from the inner surface of the upright a 0* c 0* are slots cut inward in the strip 0 from the vertical slot 0 and slanting downward therefrom.
6 indicates the curtain roller. This is provided with the usual flat pintle b and the round pintle b and in one of the strips 0 the slots 0 0* c are so formed as to permit the flat pintle entering therein and to prevent it from turning. In the other bar or strip 0 are out similar slots 0 in which the round pintle b may rest and revolve.
It will be observed that the slots 0 are arranged in pairs of opposite slots at different heights and that the curtain b may be removed from any pair of said slots and moved along the slot 0 to another pair of said slots at a difierent height or may restat the bottom of the slots 0 thus the curtain may be adjusted to any height without removing it from the window and will be securely held in operative position to whatever position it is adjusted.
What I claim is:
1. In combination with a window frame, opposite uprights of said frame having vertical slots adapted to receive and guide the pintles of a urtain roller and permit said pintles to move therein, and pairs of slots extending laterally from the first-mentioned slots at different heights adapted to receive and hold said pintles in operative position, and a curtain roller having pintles extending from its ends and engaging directly in said slots, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination with a window frame, of strips adapted to be secured to the uprights thereof, said strips being provided with vertical slots adapted to receive and guide the pintles of the curtain roller, and
having pairs of slots extending laterally from said vertical slots adapted to receive and hold said pintles at different heights in operative position, and a curtain. roller having pintles extending from its ends and engaging directly in said slots, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification.
ALVA O. THOMAS.
