WOOD-SAWING MACHINE.
1,323,449. Specification of L t Patent Patented Dec. 2, 1919.
Application filed January 16, 1919, Serial No. 271,455. Renewed October 20,1919. Serial No. 332,104.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEOPHILE BROUIL- Ln'r, a. British subject, residing at LAssomption, in the Province of Quebec, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wood- Sawing Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The present invention relates to improvements in a wood sawing machine and the main object of the invention is to provide a machine of this character that will be easily transportable in a wooded country.
A further object is to provide a sawing machine that will have a wide folding sawing bench capable of sawing long pieces of wood and that will nevertheless be simple and cheap of construction.
The invention will be better understood with the aid of the accompanying drawings in which: 7
Figure 1 isa side elevation of the ma chine, the bench being illustrated in operating position.
Fig. 2 is a rear end View of the machine.
Fig. 3 is an end view of a portion of the frame and'saw to which is applied a modified form of lifting device.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of Fig. 3.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
In the drawings, 1 is a frame mounted on a truck or four wheels 2, said frame projecting rearwardly, at 3 and 4 are brackets supporting a transverse shaft 5 which is suitably journaled therein. 6 is a fly wheel mounted on said shaft 5 and 7 is a pulley.
In the rear of the frame portion 3, is provided on one side thereof, a folding bench-8 which consists of a movable frame 9 having the usual horizontal table 10 and on one end thereof a vertical bar or post 11 is provided which is adapted to swivel in the bracket 12 supported on the side of the frame portion 3. The frame 9 is pivotally secured to the base 9 which is provided on one end with the stays or pins 13 for steadying the machine to the ground when in operation.
14: is a spiral spring secured at one end to the frame 9 and at the other end to a bracket 15 secured on the base 9?.
The folding bench 8 in Figs. 1 and 2 is shown in the open position but the stays 13 are not locked in the ground. In order to fold the bench against the side of the frame 3, so that it will not take so much space, a
' drum 16 is provided on one of the shafts supporting brackets 4t, and 17 is a handle to operate it. A cable or chain 18 is secured to said drum l6 and passes over a pulley or roller 19 and is secured to one end of the base 9 winding the cable 18 on the drum the bench 8 will be lifted out of contact with the ground and swung back against the side of the frame portion 3. In order to limit the course of the bench 8 a cable or chain 20 is secured at one end to said bench and at the other end to a hook 21 secured on said shaft supporting bracket 4:.
On the frame 1 is provided an engine 22 or any other suitable driving means and 23 is a driving pulley which imparts rotation to the pulley 7 by means preferably of a belt 24.
Mounted on the shaft 15 is a circular saw 25.
In Figs. 3 and 4, a modified form of lift ing device is illustrated in which 26 is a lever pivotally mounted on one of the saw protectors 26 and 27 is a dented wheel or disk. A frog 28 actuated by the rod 29 is adapted to engage said dented disk 27. At the lower end of the lever 26 is provided a chain 30 which is secured to the base 9. lVhen the lever 26 is tilted, the bench 8 is lifted from the ground and can easily be swung back against the side of the frame portion.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A sawing machine comprising a truck, a saw suitably mounted on the rear of said truck, a movable bench pivotally mounted on one side of said truck, means to lock said bench in the ground, means to lift said bench from the ground, means to swing said bench a ainst one side of'said truck and means to rotate said saw substantially as described.
2. A sawing machine comprising a truck, a saw suitably mounted on the rear end of said truck, a movable bench provided in the rear end of said truck, and secured thereto by a swivel, means to lock said bench in the ground, hoisting means on said truck to lift saidbench and means to rotate said saw substantially as described.
Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this 15th day of August, 1918.
THEOPHILE BROUILLET.
