COAT, HAT, AND UMBRELLA HANGER.
Application filed October 19, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARIA Zorra Olsonsirr, a citizen of Russia, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cool: and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coat, Hat, and Umbrella Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in a combined coat, hat and article supporting device.
The primary object of this invention is the provision of a coat hanger having secured thereto means for clamping a hat and holding other articles of apparel thereon against removal by an unauthorized person.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a coat hanger having secured to one arm thereof a hat clamping member and an umbrella supporting member secured to the other arm and means for locking a coat to the, hanger and a hat to the hat clamping means whereby they may be retained upon the device against removal by an unauthorized person.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described, and set forth in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like reference characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved hanger as made in accordance with this invention and showing the same in use.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the hanger.
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the hanger.
Fig, 4c is a fragmentary front elevation of the umbrella supporting member.
Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the hanger in folded position.
Fig. 6 is a side elevation partly in section of the hat clamping means.
Fig. 7 is a longitudinal sectional view of the stud and socket of the hat clamping means.
Fig. 8 is a transverse sectional view of the stud and socket member.
Referring to the drawings numerals 5 and Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 258,836.
6 designate the arms of a coat hanger connected together by one of the ends by the hmge 7 so that they may be readily folded to be placed in a comparatively small space.
The arms are held against collapsing when extended by a hook 8 which is pivotally secured as at 9 to the arm 5. The bill of the hook 8 is arranged over a headed stud or pin 10 which is secured to the arm 6 as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
;An umbrella supporting member 11 is plvotally secured bya staple 12 to the arm 5 and this member 11 is in the form of a hasp, having a bowed body portion and its free end having a slot 13 to receive the staple 14: so that an umbrella or the like article may be supported on the arm 5.
A hat clamping means comprises a pair of clamping elements 15 and 16 respectively, each member being provided with a handle 17 at one end and a clamping jaw 18 at its opposite end.
The member 15 is provided centrally with a slot while the member 16 has its central portion reduced as at 19 and extended through the slot of the member 15 so that the jaws 1.8 and handle 17 of the respective members will be parallel. The members 15 and 16 are pivotally connected together as at 20 intermediate the ends thereof. It will be readily understood that when the handles are moved in the direction of each other the clamping jaws will also be moved in the direction of each other so that a hat or other article of apparel may be firmly gripped between the jaws of the clamping members.
The handle 17 of the member 15 is extended beyond the end of the handle 17 of the member 16 as clearly shown in Fig. 6 and this extended portion is provided near its extreme end with an opening 21 through which is adapted to extend a staple 22 whereby said clamping members may be pivotally secured to the arm 6 of the hanger as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings;
A screw threaded stud 22 is secured as at 23 to the handle 17 ofthe member 15 and extends laterally therefrom in a substantially horizontal plane. The stud is loosely mounted through an opening 2 formed near the extreme end of the handle 17 of the member 16 so that the handles may be urged in the direction of each other when a threaded socket 25 is forced home upon the stud 22.
The stud 22 is provided with an opening 26 which is adapted to aline with a slot 27 formed in the socket 25 so that a locking bers element may be extended through the slot 27 and opening 26 so as to prevent movement of the socket from the stud and thereby hold the jaws 18 of the clamping memin active engaging position. The socket 25, may be provided near its outer end with suitable laterally extending lugs 28 to facilitate its threading upon and from the stud 22.
A chain 29 is secured centrally of its ends as at 30' to an attaching plate 31 and this plate is adapted to be secured by any suit, able fastener 32 to a wall or other support,
The free ends of the chain are extended through the eyes of the staples 33 carried bythe respective arms 5 and 6 of the hanger. The end of one chain will then pass through the staple 14 after the hasp has, been arranged thereon on the arm 5 While the end of the other chain is extended through the slot 27 and opening 26 of the stud and socket, thus locking the hat in the clamping members and the umbrella or other articles of apparel in the hasp. The free ends of the chain are then further extended through the sleeve 50 of a coat A which is placed upon the coat hanger as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The terminals of the chains are then-fastened or locked together by a. suitable pad-lock B, so as toprevent removal of the coat, hat or umbrella from the hook by an unauthorized person.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. The combination With a coat hanger, of a hat clamping means pivotally secured to one arm of said hanger, said clamping means comprising a pair of pivoted arms, a threaded stud secured to one end of one arm and loosely extended through the adjacent end of the other arm, a socket threaded upon said stud, and means extended through saidv socket. and stud to hold the, clamp ng arms in active grip ing PQSition, v
2 he, o bi a i n with; a upp rt, of an article supp r ng a11 .,.se d o a d support, said means comprising a pair of intermediately pivoted clamping arms, a threaded stud secured to and projecting laterally f m one end of on rm and os ly extended through the end of the adjacent arm, said stud provided adjacent its ,free?
