To. all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN E. W rmnn'r, a citizen of the United States, resldmg at Passaic, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Humidors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap-pertains to make and use the same.

The present invention relates to humidors or moisteners, and has for an object to provide a compact humidor in the form of a package or container particularly adapted for cigars and the like and in which the cigars may be packed, vended and subsequently maintained in large or small quantities in a moist and proper condition.

The invention provldes a container which may be easily and economically made of card-board, or other light and economical material, suitably treated for rendering the same air and moisture-proof, in small and large sizes to accommodate a small or large number of cigars, and which embodies "a construction for carrying in a small space and out of contact with the cigars a moistener for properly conditioning the cigars and for maintaining them in such condition for gradual consumption; the moistener being adjustable upon the top and bottom of the container for applying more or less moisture to the cigars as is found desirable; and the moistening pad being easily removable as often as deemed necessary.

With these andfurther objects in view as will in part hereinafter become apparent and in part be stated, the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as subsequently specified and claimed.

Referring to the drawing by numerals, 10 designates a container body which may be cylindrical in form as shown and may be constructed. of water and moisture-proofed cardboard, although any other suitable eco nomical material may be employed. The

container body 10 is-closed at its lower end by a perforated bottom 11 in the form of a disk having a depending marginal flange 12 fitting snugly-in the lower end of the container and engaged by the inwardly and upwardly rolled lower edge 13 of the container body 10 to hold the bottom 11 in place. The flange 12 serves as a spacer for maintaining edge of the container body, and the space within the container body and beneath the bottom 11 forms an air chamber.

The upper end of the body 10 is closed by a removable ca 1 1, and fitted over the lower end of the be y 10 is a moistener -cap 15. The caps 14 and 15 may be constructed of the same material as that of the body 10, and comprise annular bands having their outer edges rolled inwardly and returned for engaging marginal flanges 16 formed upon the disks or heads 17 of thecaps. The moistener cap 15 is of suitable depth for carrying a partition disk 18 which is perforated and provided with a spacing flange 19 turned inwardly from the marginal edge of the disk 18 'and adapted to seat upon the head 17 of the moistener cap to space the partition 18 therefrom. The flange 19 is of a depth adapted to position the partition disk 18 inwardly of the marginal edge of the moistener cap to admit the overlapping of said ed e over the end of the container the bottom 11 above the plane of the lower a body 10. The partition 18 forms an air chamber in the outer end of the cap 15 and a moistener chamber in the inner end of the cap, the loweredge of the body portion 10 projecting into the air chamber and holding the perforated bottom 11 in spaced relation to the perforated partition 18.

In use, when the pad 20 is saturated with water, or the like, it is placed in the cap 15 beneath the partition disk 18, and the cap 15 may then be fitted over the lower end of the-body 10, The articles contained within the body are housed therein by the closure cap lab-and the evaporation of the moisture from the pad 20 saturates the air in the air chamber by circulation of the air through the perforations in the partition '18. The air in the air chamber passes up through the perforations in the bottom '11 and the moisture from the air is absorbed by the articles. The upwardly spaced bottom 11 maintains the articles out of contact with the partition 18 and the moistening pad 20. If desired, the caps 14: and 15 may be interchanged cr the cap 15 placed on the upper end of the receptacle in lieu of the cap 14.

In this instance the moisturedaden air moves down through the container body 10 and effects the more complete and quick In this manner the articles maybe maintained in the desired moist condition, and when the valve 21 is used the moistening' pad 20 may be more or less cut 05 from access to the air contained in either the top or bottom of the container.

The device is particularly useful in packing and vending small quantities of cigars, as the latter may be packed and sealed in the container, and when the package is opened the pad 20 may be saturated with water and adjusted in the desired manner for maintaining the cigars in the desired moist condition. ll/Vhile in the above description the device is described as having the moistening pad 20 and the perforated partition 1% in one cap only, it is to be understood that these devices may be placed in both c'aps' if so'desired.

lVhat I claim is 1. A. humidor comprising a container body, a cap for closing an end of the container body and including an imperforate head adapted to rest against the end f th tainer body walls, and a flange carrying said head and snugly embracing the outside of the containeu walls but otherwise unsecured thereto, whereby to permit the cap to be entirely separated and removed from said container body, a perforated bottom on which articles may rest arranged in andv spaced abov the lower end of said container body, a moistener cap for closing an end of the container body and including an imperforate head, a short flange carrying said lastnamed imperforate head and snugly embracing the exterior of the container body wallsto hold the moistener cap in placev but body on which articles may rest, said disk being spaced inwardly from the lower end of the container body and having a marginal depending flange fitting against the container body walls, the lower end of such walls being rolled over saichfiange to hold the disk in place, interchangeable caps for closin the upper and lower ends of the container body, each cap consisting of a head having an out-turned flange and a band adapted to slidingly fit over the outside container walls to hold the cap in place and having an edge thereof rolled over on saidhead flange to hold the head and band together, a perforated partition placed in onecap and having a marginal out-turned flange snugly fitting with the cap band and resting against the cap head to space the latter from said partition, and an absorbent material in the space between the cap head and parti tion.
