To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT E. FLECK, a
i citizen of the United States, residing at Vlll ' more particularly to a garment of thisgenl `eral character of a bifurcated type, and it ,l fis an object of the invention to llii Robertsdale, in thecounty of Huntingdon and State of Pennsylvanla, have invented' certain,V new anduseful Improvements in Nethergarments, of which the following is a specificatiom'reference being hadn to the accompanying drawings. y p
llhis invention relates to certain im rovements in nether garments and has re ation.
rovide a novel andimproved garment of this general character including a drop seat, .together with means whereby said drop seat ma be raised or" lowered with convenience an "facility and without the necessity of affecting the adjustment of the arment as worn.
The invention conslsts in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the vseveral parts of my im-A proved nether garment whereby certain imdil dit
portant advantages are attained and the garment rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advanta cous for use, as will be hereinafter more f` y set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
ln order that my invention may be the better understood, I will` now proceed .to describe the same with reference to-the accompanying drawings, wherein: f
Figure l is a fragmentary view in elevation illustrating a nether garment constructed in accordance with an embodiment lof minvention.
ig. 2 is an enlarged fragmenta v1ew 1n perspective illustrating in detail t e gusset arranged withinV the drop seat, together with the retractile member coacting therewith.
yFig. 3 is a view in elevation of the chan nel member comprised in my inventiony as herein embodied, and
Fig. 4. is an 'enlarged fra entary sectional view taken substantial y on the line tr-4 of Fig. l.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, G denotes a bifurcated glarment of any conventional style and whic is provided with a drop seat S coacting with a suitable opening O in the garment. The seat S is of a -sizevm excess of the opening Ohso that Iseat S is in -raised or closed when the .seat S is in raised positioma complete closmg of the epen' O is assured.
'lhe opening is eiine by a continuous strlp O possessingi a pronounced degree of mherent resillency and preferably Spring steel. Thls member C is sewed or otherwise secured to the garment GI" f v The memberI C is of channel formation with the outer marginal portions ofthe side walls .a thereof inwardl directed so that the headed members M ave sliding movement therein. The members M are suitably Patented sept. 16,1e19.
secured at s Jacedpoints tothe marginal portions o'f t e seat S whereby said seatS 1s effectively maintained in closed rposition yet may be readily dropped.
' The outer \or upper end portion of the seat S has inserted therein substantially midwa `thereof an expansible gusset E prefera ly comprising material provided with folds or plalts 1 opening and closing in the fashion of a fan.` y
The seat S at opposite sides of the gusset E and at the outer portions'thereofs provided with the ears 2 to which are secured the extremities of a retraetile member 3 preferably an elastic band, and which memer 3 constantl urges the portions of the seatS at opposite sides of the gusset E one toward the other. The band or retractile member 3. affords means whereby the seat S is maintained in closed position yet at the same time this band or member Spermits the requisite expansion of the gusset E to permit droppin of the seat S.
, It is also to be un erstood that, when the mar al portions thereof over 'e the mem# ber so that said member is concealed. y It is also to be understood thatl the .resiliency or flexibility of the member C is such as to offer no hmdrance ,or obstruction to the movements of the lower limbs or to create any inconvenience when the `wearer is in a seated posture.
From the foregoing descri tion, it is thought to be obvious that a nether garment constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use b' reason ofthe convenience and facility wit which it may be assembled and operated,
tion is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the princiosition, the
and it will also be obvious that my inven- I i I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement an formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
the marginal'portlons ofthe Hap and sli bly engaged within the first named memer.
2. In combination with a garment pro-f vided with an opening and a drop flap coacting therewith, a channel member carried .by the garment andextending around-the opening, spaced members carried b the marginal portions of the ap and vslldably engaged within the first named member, a
'portion ofthe Hap being expansible, and means for maintaining said expansible portIon normally contracted. Y
3. In .com ination with a garment provided rwlth an openin and a drop flap coactmg therewith, a iannel member carried by the garment and extending around the openin spaced members carried b the marglnal portions of the iap and sli ably engaged within the first named member, a portlon of the flap bein and a retractile member secure to the fiap nd bridgingl the expansible portion of the y1:1 testimony1 whereof I hereunto aiiix my signature In t e presence of two witnesses.
