and State of California, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Watch-Holders, of which the following is a specification. p
This invention relates to an improved watch holder and has as its primary object to provide a device of thischaracter adapted to support a watch upon an automobile wind shield in position where the watch may be easily seen by persons riding in the rear seat of the vehicle as well as in the front seat thereof.
lhe invention has as a further object to provide a holder so constructed thatwhen engaged over the upper edge of the lower glass of a wind shield, said holder will be adapted to support a watch in inclined position tilted toward the shield so that the dial of the watch will be easily readable.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder having a resilient finger adapted to contact with the glass of the wind shield for supporting the bodyof the holder inclined with respect thereto and wherein the said tongue will thus be. adapted to prevent vibration of the holder against the glass and eliminate severe jolting of the watch when the vehicle is passing over rough roadways.
And the invention has as a still further object to provide a holder which may also be employed as a stand for the watch, Wherein the stand may be arranged either in a vertical or rearwardly inclined position and wherein, when the stand is disposed in an inclined osition, the resilient finger of the holder Wlll provide a prop therefor.
Other and incidental objects will appear during the course of the detailed descr ption of the invention. In the drawings, wherein l have illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views:

Fig. 3" is a side elevation showing the holder employed as a stand for the watch when the spring finger of the device becomes a prop for the stand,

In carrying the invention into efi'ect, my improved holder is preferably formed from a single piece of suitable resilient sheet metal cut to lprovide a somewhat elongated body 10 at t e lower end of which are integrally formed legs 11 at opposite side edges of the body. Extending from the side edges of the body adjacent its upper end is a pair of oppositely disposed clamping arms 12 which are inclined upwardly and are also longitudinally curved to resiliently engage around the curved peripheral edge of a watch. At the lower end 0 clamping arm 13 disposed between the legs 11, this latter clamping arm being adapted to engage around the peripheral edge of the watch at its lower side to coact with the arms 12 for firmly clamping the watch upon the holder. At their outer ends, the arms 12 and 13 are preferablyformed with rebent portions defining terminal loops 14 so that the arms will present rounded edges at their terminals. Struck from the body medially the body 10 is formed a similar thereof is a rearwardly inclined spring finger 15;
At its upper end, the body 10 is extended to form a reduced neck 16 which carries a rearwardly directed and downwardly presented hook 17.' As articularly brought out in Figs. 3, 4 and 5 of the drawings, the hook 17 is substantially channel shaped in cross I bill ortion 18 thereof is gradually flared or widened toward its free end to accordingly provide an increased bearing area therefor. Furthermore, as also brought out in these figures of the drawings, the neck 16 is transversely bent at a point I adjacent its lower end to thus support the incllned pohook as a-whole in forwardly 10. Struck upper end of the neck 16 is a forwardly inclined lug or stud 19 and Struck fromthe bill portion of the hook medially thereof, is an inwardly and upwardly curved spring finger 20. In the drawings, I have shown a conventional watch 21 in position upon the holder. As there illustrated, the watch is seated against the body 10 and engaged at its periphery by. the clamping arms 12 and 13 to be firmly held thereby upon the body, and the ring upon the watch stem is engaged over the stud 19 which will thus prevent rotation of-thewatch within the clamping over the upper edge of'the lower glass pref-' erably at'a point substantially midway between the ends thereof. The tongue 20 will thus yieldably bear against the outer face of the glass forfirmly connecting the holder therewith and, owing to the forward inclination of the hook I? with respect to the body of the holder, the hook will support the body 10 inclining downwardly away from the wind shield while the tongue will rest against'the inner face of the lower glass.
. This tongue will, therefore, sustain the body 10 with respect to the lower glass so that the watch will always occupy an inclined position with respect to the wind shield so that the dial of the watch will be easily readable. Furthermore, the watchmay be seen, b persons riding in the rear seat of the ve icle as well as by persons riding in the forward seat. The tongue will, of
course, maintain the shank' portion of the finger will thus yieldably hook 17 clamped against the front face of the lower glass of the wind shield and-will thus act, as particularly brought out in Fig.
2, upon thebody 10 of the holder to maintain .the finger 15 slightly compressed between ass. The tongue and coact with the glass to prevent vibration of the holder with respect to the glass. Furthermore, by this construction, the finger 15 will act to prethe'body and said g wvent severe jolting of the watchwhen the vehicle is passing over rough roadways.
In Fig. 3, I have shown the holder in use as] a stand for the watch. As illustrated in this figure, the legs 11 of the holder may be rested u on a suitable support and the holder tifie 15' with thesupport, when the tongue will provide a prop for the holder for sustainthe watch. In some instance it may be deed to provide a prop for supporting the d rearwardly to engage the tongue g the watch in .rearwardly inclined posi-' :tion. Whenso used the holder will pro- ..vide a very attractive deskor table stand for sired to have the watch supported in a vertical position, and in Fig. 4 I have shown the holder disposed to support the watch in such position. As illustrated in this figure, the body 10 of the holder. is tilted forwardly until the spring arm 14 engages with the support sustaining the holder when said arm will form a leg coacting with the legs 11 for maintaining the holder in an upright position. I accordingly'provide a very simple construction for the purpose set forth and a device which may, when a person is riding in an automobile, be readily attached to the Wind shield thereof While, when desired, the holder may be detached and used as a watch stand.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A device of the character described including a body, means carried thereby for connecting a timepiece with the body, suspending means carried by the body, and yieldable means extending from the body and adapted to bear between the body and an object engaged by said suspending means for yieldably supporting the body with respect to said object.
2. A device of the character described including a body, means carried by the body for connecting a timepiece therewith, suspending means for the body, and yieldable means respectively carried by said suspending means and the body and adapted to coact with an ojbect engaged by said suspending means for yieldably clamping the body upon and sustaining the body with respect to said object.
3. A device of the character described ineluding a body, means carried by the body for connecting a timepiece therewith, suspending means for thebody, and yieldable means carried by the body and adapted to bear between the body and an object engaged by said suspending means for yieldably sustaining the body with respect to said object, said yieldable means bein directed rearwardly from the body and a. aptbody in rearwardly inclined position ing a stand.
4. A device of the character described including a body, means carried thereby for connecting a timepiece with the body, a suspending hook carried by the body, and a resilient tongue projecting within said hook and adapted to bear against an object engaged by the hook for clamping the body upon said object.
5. A device of the characterdescribed including a body, means carried thereby for connecting a time piece with the body, a suspending hook for the body, a resilient fingerdirectly rearwardly away from the body,
and a resilient tongue carried by said hook and adapted to bear against an object engaged by the hook for clamping. the body upon said object compressing said finger between the body and the object whereby the finger will cushion the body with respect to the object.
6. A. device of the character described including a body, means carried thereby for connecting a time piece with the body, legs carried by the body, suspension means for the body, and means carriedjby the body and adapted to bear between the body and an object engaged by said suspension means foryieldably sustaining the body with re-- spect to said object, said -1ast mentioned means being adapted to provide a prop for supporting the body in rearwardly inclined posiiion resting upon the legs and forming a stan 7. A device of the character described ineluding a body, a suspension hooktherefor, means for connecting a time piece with the body, and a stud formed from the shank of said hook and adapted to engage through the ring of a timepiece for holding the time piece against rotation upon the body, 8.
