To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Oscar: O. R. SoHwI- DE'IZKY, a citizen of the "United States, and a resident of Hasbrouck Heights, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Syringe, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. i v p The invention relates to syringes having a barrelprovided at one end with anozzle and at the other end with a rubberbulb for drawing liquid into the barrel and ejecting it through the nozzle to any part.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved syringe of, this type arranged to permit the user to readily draw liquid into the barrel and to prevent the drawn in liquid from flowing into the bulb on holding the syringe with its nozzle upward. Another object is to permit the user 011 pressing the bulb to force air out of the bulb into the barrel and to allow the air to return to the bulb and reeinflate the same on releasing the pressure of the bulb. Another object is to provide a valveless syringe composed of but two parts which can be readily assembled or disassembled for cleaning and sterilizing purposes.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.

The barrel 10 is preferably made of glass and is provided at its forward end with a nozzle 11 and at its rear end with a flaring mouth 12 on which is seated a rubber bulb wall 15 with an opening at the end of the corresponding air passage formed by the groove 16 and the inner surface of the barrel 1 0, and by this arrangement communicatlon is established between the interior of the bulb 13 and thebarrellO, that is, by way of the corresponding opening 17 and its groove 16. It will be noticed that by the arrangementdescribedgthe end wall 15 of the neck 1-1 forms a large supporting surface for the liquid to rest on at the time the barrel 10 is held in positionWvith the nozzle 11 upward so thatthe liquid is not liable to flow through the air, passage and the opening 17 into the bulb 13.
It is understood that on using the syringe, the operator first squeezes therubber bulb 13 to allow the air contained therein to pass into the barrel10, ahdthenozzle 11 isnow immersed in the liquid after which the operator releases the bulb 13 to draw the liquid into the barrel 10, and to permit the air in the barrel to pass into the bulb 13 to reinflate the latter. The operator can now turn the syringe upside down or into any inclined position without danger of the liquid flowing from the barrel intothe bulb 13. It is understood that the syringe isusually held temporarily in this position and the liquid has not time to pass into the bulb throu h the minute grooves 16 and the openings 1% especially as a large supporting surface for the column of liquid is provided by thewall 15. It will also be noticed that owing to the capillary action of the inner surface of the barrel at the air passage any liquid is prevented from flowing through the air passage and the openings 17 into the bulb 18. In syringes having a rubber bulb it is desirable that medicated or other liquid does not pass into the bulb to avoid deterioration of the bulb by the influence of the medicated liquid. It will also be noticed that the liquid is contained in the barrel and hence the user of the syringe can see at all times whether the medicated liquid is in proper condition or not.
