To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ISAAC H. WEINBERG, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the city and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Umbrellas and Parasols, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide an umbrella with a tie which is detachable from the cover, means being provided whereby the tie may be used for holding the cover in its rolled position and for securing both ends of the tie to the cover when so desired.

A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a detail side View of an umbrella or parasol closed and rolled, with my improved tie applied thereto,

The cover of the umbrella or parasol is denoted by 1, the ribs by 2, the rod by 3 and the tie by 4:. The cover is provided with half members 5 and 6 (in the present in stance the male members) of two snap fasteners, which half members are permanently secured to the cover along its border. The tie is provided on its inner face at its ends with the complementary members 7 and 8 of the two half members 5 and 6.

This arrangement of the fastening members permits the tie to be detachably secured to the cover at one or both ends of the tie. When both ends of the tie are detachably secured to the cover by the coaction of the members 5, 7, and 6, 8, the tie will lie along the cover at its border. When the tie is to be used for holding the umbrella cover in its rolled position, the members 5, 7, may be snapped together and after the tie has been passed around the cover, its member 8 may be snapped onto the member 9.

If it be desired to remove the tie from the cover, this may be readily accomplished thus rendering the umbrella more attractive and the tie, if so desired, may be passed around any part of the frame or rod or handle and its members 7 and 9 snapped together to form a loop around the part which is to temporarily retain the tie.

What I claim is 1. An umbrella or parasol including a cover having spaced half members of two fasteners permanently secured to the cover at its outer edge and a tie having spaced complementary members of said fasteners whereby the tie may be detachably secured at one or both ends to the cover.

2. An umbrella or parasol including a cover having spaced half members of two fasteners permanently secured to the cover at its outer edge and a tie having spaced complementary members of said fasteners whereby the tie may be detachably secured at one or both ends to the cover, the said tie having a third half fastener member for attaching one of the complementary half members on the tie whereby the ends of the tie may be detaehably secured together to form a loop.
