WILLIAM onninnurn, or Los ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
SUSPENDERS.
' Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 15 1919.
Application filed my 9, 1917. Serial No. 179,428.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. REIN- MUTH, a citizen of the United States, and
resident of Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and Improved Suspender, of which the following is a full, clear, and ex act description.
This invention relates to apparel devices and has particular reference to suspender attachments or means connecting the strap or web portion of the suspenders to the trousers or other garment to be suspended.
Among the objects of the invention is to provide a suspender or suspender attachment having a plurality of slides connected to the web and having also a slidable cord threaded through or over all of said slides, a plurality of tabs for attachment of the suspender to the trousers being provided and having the cord so attached to the tabs as to insure substantially equal tension on the cord throughoutits length.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a suspender attachment having a slide support connected to the suspender web, a plurality of tabs for independent attachment to the trousers and a cord having its ends attached to a portion of said tabs and having its intermediate portion slidably connected to the remaining portion of the tabs and said slide support. A still further object of the invention is to provide a suspender attachment comprising a slide support for adjustable connection to the suspender web and having a plurality of slides thereon, a series of trouser attachment tabs some of which tabs have slides and others of which do not have slides and a cord having its ends and intermediate portions so connected to the several tabs and slides as to insure equal tension or strain upon all of the tabs.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and while the invention is not restricted to the exact details of construction disclosed or suggested herein, still for the purpose of illustrating a practical embodiment thereof reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters designate the same parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of one form of my new attachment, and
Fig. 2 is a similar view of another form thereof.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings I show in Fig. 1 a suspender strap or web 10 having a hanger bar 11 adjustably secured thereto in the usual manner; said hanger bar serving to support a slide support 12 having formed thereon or otherwise carrying a series of slides 13, 1 1 and 15, in any suitable arrangement. The slide support is indicated as suspended upon the bar 11 by means of a pivot 16.
In this form of the invention I show a series of three tabs 17, 18 and 19 adapted for detachable connection with trousers buttons 20 or their equivalent. A portion of the tabs namely 18 and 19, are provided with slides 21 and 22, while the remaining portion, namely the tab 17 has no slide.
The flexible member 23 which may be referred to herein as a cord has its intermediate portion slidably threaded through or over all of the slides above referred to while the ends of the cord are both secured at 241 to the portion of the tabs having no slide. In the form thus far described the strain upon the cord will be equal at all points and likewise the strain upon the several tabs will be substantially equal.
While the form of the attachment shown in Fig. 1 provides that the tab to which the ends of the cord are attached is located at one side of the center or line of the web, in Fig. '2 the tab 17 having the ends of the cord secured thereto is in the center and in alinement with the web, otherwise the description of F ig. 1 is applicable substantially to that form shown on Fig. 2.
In both illustrated forms of attachment I provide for maximum flexibility of the suspender attachment, providing for the utmost ease of movement ofthe Wearers body in all directions without causing strain or pressure in any direction upon the person. Furthermore because of the flexibility just referred to, the life of the attachment with respect to the cord and tabs is greatly enhanced, and the danger of the buttons 20 be ing' pulled from the trousers is greatly reslidable freely through all three of said duced. slides, three tabs, and two slides carried by I claim: two of said tabs, said cordv being freely slid- 10 In a Suspender attachment, the c01nbinaablethrough said tab slides and having its 5 tion With a Web and a hanger bar, of a slide ends attached to the third tab.
support connected to the hanger bar, three slides carried by the slide support, a cord WM. C. REINMUTH.
