State ofSouth Carolina have inventedand discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Driers, of which the followingis a specification.
My said inventionconsists of an improved vals on which tubular'sections 17 are mountconstruction and arrangement of driers,its special purpose being to'providean apparatus for the drying of very light material, such as gypsum, graphite, or any similar substance, or any flufi y materialwhichmust be dried without subjection to a draft,
wherebya drier of such a type is provided that 1s very eflicient in results and convenient of operation, as well as comparatively inexpensive to install, all of Which as will be hereinafter more fully described a d olalmed. i w

In said drawings the portions marked A represent the supports, B the drier floor, or pans composing it, and C the hopper connected with the source of supply.
The frame comprises the supports A and has guide rails 10 for the chain carriers and may be of any appropriate construction and arrangement for the purpose. In the front of the apparatus is a furnace having grate bars 11 connected by horizontal flues 1:2 with a chimney 13 at the other end of the apparatus.
The drying floor B consists of a series of sections or pans adapted tofit together and over the top of the furnace and fines constituting the heating apparatus, as shown, making a continuous floor from one end of the apparatus to the other.
The feed hopper G is of any appropriate dotted line construction having a fluted, or angular in cross section, feed roller 14 111 its throat being adapted be operated bypowerfrom any convenient source andarranged to receive the material from any convenient or appropriate supply. It is located directly above the front end of the drier and is adapted to deposit material thereon. An agitator isprovided consisting of endless chalns 15, one on each side, carry I ing transverse rods 16 at appropriate intered each of which carries an agitator arin or plow 18 of substantially the form shown in Fig. 5.

By referring to Figs. 1 and 2 this operation will" be clearly understood. The upper part of each endless chain 15 runs upon one of the side parts or supports 10 with the agitator fingers thereon hanging in a vertical position. They pass over the drum 20 at one end and the drum 21 at the other end by which the endless chain or apron is driven. The driving chain 22 connects with a sprocket wheel 23 on the shaft 24 of frame 21 and furnishes the driving power. Another sprocket wheel 25 on the shaft 26 of the drum 20 is connected by a sprocket chain 27 with a sprocket wheel 28 on the shaft 29 of the feeding roller 14 in the hopper C.
At the end of the drier I form a transverse trough 30 in which is mounted a spiral conveyer 31 driven by a sprocket chain 32 from any appropriate power.

Having thus fully described my said invention, WhatI claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: 1.
