UNITED sTATEs rA N o Io OSCAR E. DROEGE, OF Po PToN LAKES, NEw JEEsEY, AND GEORGE A. ROBINSON, or
' NEW YORK, N. 2.,
HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 1919 Application filed October 29, 1918. Serial No. 260,188.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Oscar: E. DROEGE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Pompton Lakes, in the county. of Passaic and State of New Jersey, and GEORGE A. ROBINSON, a citizen of the United. States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of h lanhattan, in the'county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved holder more especially designed for holding brooms, shovels, rakes, handled tools and other tools and implements, and arranged to permit convenient adjustment of the holding members to accommodate tools and implements of small or large diameters. Another object is to .permit of conveniently andquickly placing the tools and implements in position on the holder or removing the tools and implements therefrom whenever it is desired to use them. Another object is to provide a holder for use in stores for displaying tools or other implements or for use in households or adjacent the work bench for holding tools or implements within convenient reach of the user.
WVith these and other objects in View, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the holder;
Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the same on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same on the line 33 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 is a similar view of the same on the line 41 of Fig. 1.
The support 10 of the holder is in the form of a bar provided with brackets 11 for fastening the support to a wall 12 or other structure. The support 10 is provided in its face with longitudinally extending T slots 15, 16 and 17, of which the T slots 15 and 16 are engaged by slidable clamping bolts 18 engaging a button 19 extending vertically and adapted to be clamped in position on the support 10 by the said clamping bolts 18.
. The tool, implement or other article 20 :to be supported by the holder is placed against one side of the abutment 19 and the article is clamped in position on the abutment by a cam face 25 formed on a swinging arm .26 mounted to swing on apnut 27 screwingin a bolt 28 held adjustable in the T slot 17 of the support 10.. It will be noticed that the pivoted arm 26 with its cam face. 25 forms a clamping member for clamping the article in position against the corresponding side ofthe abutment 19.: It is understood that any desired number of abutments l9 and clamping members may. be mounted on the support 10 to accommodate a corresponding number of articles on the single holder for display or other purposes. It will f-urther-be noticed that by providing the swinging arm 26 with the cam surface 25, articles of various diameters can be readily clamped in place without requiring adjustment of the parts, as will be readily understood by the arrangement disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2 for the three smaller articles. For a larger article 20, as shown to the right in Figs. 1 and 2, a corresponding adjustment of the abutment 19 and the pivot nut 27 has to be made.
The free end of each arm 26 is provided with a concentric slot 30 into which projects a pin 31 held in the T slot 15. By this arrangement the swinging movement, in a downward or upward direction, of the arm 26 is limited, at the same time the free end of'the arm is properly guided. The cam face 25 is preferably roughened to insure a firm grip on the article 20 to securely hold the latter clamped in position between the abutment 19 and the clamping face 25.
In order to place an article 20 in position on the hoder it is only necessary to swing the arm 26 upward to-pass the article between the abutment 19 and the clamping face 25, which latter by the downward pull of the article causes a firm clamping of the latter against the abutment 19. When it is desired to remove the article 20 it is only necessary to give it a slight upward movement to loosen the eccentric clamping face 25 by swinging the arm 26 upward to allow of removing the article from the holder.
Having thus described our invention, we
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A holder, comprising a support, an abutment adj ustably attached to the support, and a clamping cam adapted to coact with the said abutment to clamp an article between them, the said clamping cam having a pivot adjustably mounted on the said support to adjust the clamping cam nearer to or farther from the said abutment.
2. A holder, comprising a support, anabutment adjustably mounted on the said support, and a clamping member adjustably mounted on the said support to one side of the said abutment, the said clamping member having an arm, a pivot at one end of the arm and adjustably mounted on the said support and a clamping face at the other end of the arm and adapted to coact with the adjacent side of the abutment to clamp an article between them.
3. A holder, comprising a support, an abutment adjustably mounted on the said support, and a clamping member adjustably mounted on the said support to one side of the said abutment, the said clamping memher having an arm, a pivot at one end of the arm and adjustably mounted on the said support and a clamping face at the other end of the arm and adapted to coact with the adjacent side of the abutment to clamp an article between them, the said clamping member having a slot and a pin slidably held in the said support and engaging the said slot.
4,. A holder, comprising a support provided on its face with longitudinally extending parallel slots, an abutment extending vertically across the slots, clamping screws adjustably mounted in two of the said slots and engaging the said abutment, a clamping member on the face of the support to one side of the abutment, the said clamping member having an arm provided at one end with an eccentric cam face adapted to coact with the said side of the abutment to clamp an article between them, the said clamping member having a slot, a pivot adjustably mounted in one of the said support slots and on which the said arm is mounted to swing,
and a retaining pin held adjustably in another of the said support slots and engaging the slot 111 the said clamping member.
