Description
' UNITED STATESl WIIiSON O. BERGER, OF BETHEL, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,617, dated August 20, 1872.
Specification describing a new and Improved Wash-Boiler, invented by WILsoN G. BERGER, of Bethel, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania.
This invention consists of a secondary or false bottom, adapted to fit inside that ot' the sheet-metal boiler snugly, with the legs to hold it about three inches above the permanent bottom, which said false bottom has three parallel rows of holes through it vertically, said rows being in the direction of its long axis; and over the middle row a long narrow space is inclosed by two perforated plates, ris
ing as high as the top of the boiler, and joined together at the top and ends, so that water heated in the space below the false bottom will he forced up in the said inclosed space, and out through the perforated sides among the clothes, and down to the heatingspace again, through the outside row of holes in the false bottom, so as to act upon the clothes very efficiently, all as hereinafter described.
Figure lis a longitudinal sectional elevation of a wash-boiler taken on the line x of Fig. 2, and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional elevation taken on the line y y of Fig. l.

A is the aforesaid false bottom, fitted snugly within the boiler D, with two outside rows of holes, B, near the edges, in the direction of its greatest length, and a middle row, O. E represents legs in the form of rings for sup` porting it a few inches above the bottom of l). F represents the two perforated plates rising up from said bottom, one on each side of the row O of holes, and united at the ends and tops by a plate, H, for the hot water and steam to rise up in from the space below and circulate among the clothes bypassing out through holes I, and falling back again through holes B, as it be- Vcomes cold, to be reheated.
The clothes, being moistened and soaped, will be packed in the boiler D around the distributing-plates F, so as to be acted on by the water when caused to circulate bythe heat in this way.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the false bottom A with. three rows of holes, as described, the perforated plates F inclosing a space, II, and the mid dle row of holes O, with a. boiler, D, substantially as speciiied.
