Description
PERCIVAL G. UNDERWOOD, F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
INDICATING-TAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 20, 1919.
Application filed January 17, 1917. Serial No. 142,915.
To' all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PERcrvAL G. UNDnR- wooo, a citizen of the United States, residing "at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and
State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Indicating-Tag, of Which thefollowing is a specification.
The principal object of the present invention is toprovide a new and novel form of indicating tag Which may readily and expeditiously be attached to and disconnected from a variety of articles used in every day business without the employment of securing mediums, the tag being self-locking in I tion, I have shown in the accompanying.
character.
Other and further I objects will appear hereinafter.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof and in which: Figure 1 is a face view of a tag having slitted portions upon opposite edges with afolded over portion, and d Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view of a blank 'for formmg the tag shown in Fig. 1.
For the purpose of illustrating'my invendrawings one form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and. that my inven- 'tion is not limited to the precise arrange permanent ment and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
The tag of the invention may be utilized in ways too numerous to mention. The tag is designed primarily for what may be termed temporary use in contradistinction to employment. It may be manufac'tured from celluloid, cardboard, thin metal, leather or other suitable material and the shape and size depends upon the use to which it is to be put. In practice, the tag may be plain or have delineated thereon characters 'in accordance with the use to which it isto be put. As it may be stamped the cost of manufacture is small. In the drawings the tag is shown as comprising an elongated body portion 11 terminating at its top in an integral tapered extension 16. This exten- As clearly shown these slits are oppositely 1 disposed. 'A weakened line 1717 is provlded on said tapered extension and is interposed between the apertures l t-14. The apertured parts 147-14 are so arranged that when the tapered part is folded over upon the line l717 said apertures are in regls ter. Thus one of the slitted portions for mstance the one upon the tag proper may be caused to engage with a suitable ob- ]ect as a pm, ring or other article so that sald article is accommodated by the said apertured part 14:. The foldable or upper part of the tag may now be folded down over the tag proper and the slitted part thereof caused to engage said article until the same rests within the aperture 14. The tag now is securely interlocked with respect to sald article in all directions. In the folded, interlocked position of the tag the slits 13 are in a plane entirely below the top edge of the tag. 7
It will be apparent that I have devised a novel and useful construction which embodies the features of advantage enumer-' ated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description and while I have in the present instance shown anddescribed the preferred embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the with a suitable object and the folding part of said extension maybe folded upon said weakened line downward, so that the other aperture and slit may be caused to engage said object to interlock the tapered portions of said tag together with the body portion of the tag projected from said interlocked parts, said slits in the folded position of the tag parts being in a plane entirely below the top edge of said tag.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto Witnesses:
WILLIAM J. JAoKs'oN, CLARA E. REVENO.-
