which is reciprocated by the motorby means lofa, suitable motion transmitting-device and "fas t `-To all whom #may concorre y "t Beitl known vthat I, Ronn'r LAeUs, a` subf ject afweer-and nukeof Finland, and resi- 1 dentof 14: Lilla Tavastgatan, bo, in the x5 Grand"Duchy of "Finland, have invented certain new an useful Improvements in Tree` Felling Machines, of which "the following is" e` accompanying drawing.
' `This invention relates to a rtable tree ,ries` al `suitable vmotor and" a Shding rod,
` carries thesaw-blade. The said machine also V has agrod, guiding the saw-blade, while it cuts'itself .into the tree, and a device, by means of which the barrow is rmlyconnectedwin the @new be felled.
` My inventionconsists of the construction,`
combination and 4arrangement of partsyas i herein,` illustrated, described; and claimed.
" @Infthe accompanying drawings, forming parthereof, I have illustrated a form of embodiment of my invention, in which draw- 'similar reference characters designate corresponding parts, y and ink whlch':

pin 3 is fixed, around which can rotate a horizontal ring 4 (disk or the like) provided wtha dametricalbar 5, in which there is anopening for the pin 3. The said ring is i f y provided with a handle 6, by means of which the ring 4 can be rotated manually around thepin. Thesaid'fcable is l" placed around the tree to be cut and passes through a ring` 25 kfixed to thejfore end` of the barrow atthe o n with relation to lthe, hook 241x' Thejend offth cable 23` is securedto a hand1ever26,i.. iv oted to an upright'27,which isprovid on the barrow. The cable istightenedaround vthetree by means ,of the hand lever, which isheldin operative positionby:y any suitable meanslwfor instance by teeth 28` rovidedyonf thebarrow, which are engagedgy the lower gage or disengagethe hand leve1226` with y or from the teeth 28 there Lis ya slight play between the lever and its piv'ot'262fv The en'` gagement of the lever with theteetli is maintained bythe tension ofthecable acti to'- ont cured, which are forced into the tree,"`as the cable 23 is tightened around the same;y The handles 30 are pivoted to the barrow insuch manner, that they. can be swungy outward into the positionshown by dotted-liliesy the machine from tree to tree# "While 't machine is in operation, the saidl hand] occupy the `position shown'bfy full'lines;y When a tree is tobe cut oli' the barrow., n fixed to the same by means( of the cablej23 y and in the manner stated above, imm`ediately above the ground. L The barrow j fis then brought into a horizontal position by meansl of adjusting screws 31, providedlin therear end of the same. After the motor? has been tree by rotating the ring 4y by meansoffth H handle 6.- By feeding the` sawjthroughI tree normally, the "operator can trol the work of the saw, so that there ywill be no risk of the feed becoming too rapid, which would cause the saw-blade to break or stop the m'otor. While the saw-blade cuts itself into the tree, the rod 21 guides the same, until the rod contacts with the tree. The rod is then stopped in its motion, While the saw-blade passes farther into the tree.
Having now described my invention, what I claim'as new and desire to secure by Let,- ters Patent is In a tree-felling machine, the combination comprising asupport, a rotatable horizontally disposed member on rthe support, a. mol copines f um patent my be obtained for tor on the rotatable member, a rod slidably disposed on the rotatable member and arranged to be moved by the motor, a sawl blade connected to the rod, a U-shaped rod pivoted to the rotatable member and arranged to engage-'the back of the saw on the commencement of a eut, and a, spring member having one end secured to the rotatable member and its opposite end secured to the rear end of the U-shaped member.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name.
