Specification of Letters lPatent. Patented Apr. 2%), W919.
Application filed May E5, 1917. Serial We. learn.
To all whom it may camera:
Be it known that l, ARTHUR E. Pnrnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Easton, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain 'newand useful Improvement in Plate- Valves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plate valves and in particular to meansfor properly spacing the valve plate from the valve seat and stop late.
p The objects of my invention are to improve the construction of plate valves and especially to enable them to be quickly assembled and correctly placed in position in the compressor.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists in the features of construction and combination of parts. set forth in this specification and pointed out in the claims. p
In the drawings annexed hereto and forming a part of this specification,
Figure 1 shows a cross sectional view of the complete valve in accordance with the present invention,
Fig. 2, a plan view of the valve and supporting central section,
Fig. 3, a plan view of a slightly modified form of the invention, and
Fig. 4:, a cross sectional view of a portion of the valve showing the modified form of the invention.
In the drawings the valve seat is shown at l and is of usual construction and provided with the usual ports. Through the center of this valve seat extends a post 2 which extends through the valve plate 3, the spring plate 4 and cover plate 5 securely fastening them together by means of a nut 6. To separate the seat 1 and spring plate 4 from the valve plate 3 Washers 7 and 8 are usually placed, which hold the central section of the valve 9 properly spaced from the seat 1 and spring plate 4 respectively. This permits the valve central section 9 to be held midway between the extreme limits of movement of the valve so that the distortion of the parts that the valveand washers 7 and 8 are not returned to their proper position but are both placed on one side or the other of the valve. This prevents the valve from functioning properly due to the undue distortion to which the yieldable connections between the integral central section 9 and the annular valve sections 3 are subjected. Jln order therefore to avoid this possibility the central section 9 of the valve is made of greater thickness than the annular valve section 3 preferably. by rigidly securing the washers and 8 as for instance by rivets as shown in Fig. 4: or by electric welding as shown at 10 in Fig. 2, thus forming raised sections oneither side of the valve. Also the central section 9 may be made entirely of one piece with the annular valve section 3 but this is not the referred construction for the reason that this would be a ditficult and wasteful operation. The object to be attained is to make the valve so that its parts can not be improperly assembled.
From the above it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of my invention will be apparent, and it is to be understood that the present showing and description disclose only certain specific modifications of my invention, and other forms and modifications are included within the spirit and scope thereof, as expressed in the appended claims.
What. ll claim is:
1. In a plate valve construction comprising a seat, an ,annular valve section covering .-valve ports in said seat, an integral central Ill ing a seat, an annular valve section covering and lower sides to position the central secvalve ports in said seat, an integral central tion midway between the limits of mavesection on said valve section secured to e ment of the annular valve section.
post binding-the valve seat and valve section In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set 1% together, said central section having raised; my hand. sections secured thereto upon both upper ARTHUR E. PETERS.
